At the Dark Horse: CLASSIFIED! panel this afternoon at New York Comic-Con, a series of brand new licensed comics including new material from Aliens, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, and The Legend of Korra was announced.

The brand new Aliens comic is entitled Aliens: Defiance with writing from Brian Wood (Star Wars) and art from Tristan Jones (Mad Max: Furiosa) the comic is being edited by Spencer Cushing, Assistant Editor for Dark Horse. The comic follows a newcomer to the franchise, Zula Hendricks as she attempts to save humanity from aliens attempting to land on Earth.

Next up is Buffy returning to comics with Buffy: The High School Years — Freaks and Geeks, the series features art from manga illustrator Yishan Li (The Clique) with writing from Faith Erin Hicks (The Last of Us: American Dreams) the comic is being edited by Freddye Miller. The title is about the early years of Buffy, taking place in the classic years of the show when Buffy first met series staples Willow and Zander.

Lastly, the publisher has decided to adapt another television property that is extremely well suited to comics, The Legend of Korra. The new comic is written by Michael Dante DiMartino, a co-creator and writer of Korra with art from Brittney Williams (Hellcat) the comic being edited by Dave Marshall. This comic picks up directly after the events of the show written by one of the co-creators. That’s about as official to cannon as a comic could actually get. Just in case the title needed a stronger pedigree, another co-creator, Bryan Konietzko has a consulting credit on the title.

UPDATE: CBR Debuted artwork and confirmed that Buffy: The High School Years — Freaks and Geeks is an original graphic novel!
