Do you love Blade Runner but wish it would have looked more pixelated?
A publisher of games from China may have something for you. Developed by Palm Pioneer and published by Zodiac Interactive, Tales of the Neon Sea is a point & click adventure, with puzzle-solving elements, and an intriguing central narrative set in a futuristic cyberpunk world depicted through hypnotic 2D pixel art.
Murder and mystery is abound in this dystopian sci-fi city space, check out the trailer below complete with brooding synth soundtrack and a trenchcoat-clad detective chased by some giant cyborg grim reaper lurking in the future city’s sewer system.
Everything in the trailer looks promising. The art deco version of a neon metropolis has an ambiance you can’t help but be intrigued by. I just can’t help but want to know who this pixel private eye is. No story details have been released, yet. With the game being translated from Chinese for the west, the narrative could be a bit stiff but the character and his hazards look interesting enough to give it a shot.
The game will be shown off at PAX East in Boston next weekend at the Zodiac Interactive booth. If PAX wasn’t happening the same weekend as WrestleMania I’d be among the first, but we’ll get a chance as the game gets closer to its Summer 2018 release window for STEAM PC and consoles.
