NO SPANDEX SATURDAY: IndieCade announces 2017 festival dates and a new location

In a week filled with the ups of Destiny 2 announcements and the lows of losing a music scene legend, we take a step back and talk just a bit about one of our favorite shows of the year.

For years IndieCade has been one of the most diverse and eye-opening festivals in gaming. Happening annually, the show has seen venue changes in recent years moving from the downtown Culver City area of Los Angeles to the campus of USC. 2017 will see the festival once again switch venues from the prestigious university to the heart of Los Angeles’ Little Tokyo district.

In case you’ve never heard of it, IndieCade supports independent game development and organizes a series of international events showcasing the future of independent games. Those working in or aspiring for careers in gaming can check out IndieXchange, a series of workshops, sessions, master classes, and networking meetings specifically for developers. On the flip side fans can join in competitive play, table games, tournaments, speed runs, and massive communal fun at IndieCade’s multiplayer events.

IndieCade is a small but poignant festival with one of the friendliest crowds around. Everyone shares and expresses their willing inclusiveness for gaming. In a culture that can seem dominated by over possessive nerd trolls, it’s quite a refreshing experience. Think of it as the mini comic con experience in gaming as you can take in valuable information or be entertained by the likes of PlayStation, Nintendo, Oculus VR, and more.

The festival’s move to Little Tokyo opens it up to new possibilities. Specifically, IndieCade will take place throughout parts of the Japanese American National Museum, the National Center for the Preservation of Democracy, and the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center. An area rich in Japanese culture could attract more of its targeted audience.
