Archie’s Jughead is going on Summer Break and he’s taking writer Chip Zdarsky (Sex Criminals) and a brand new guest artist to the series, Derek Charm (Powerpuff Girls) with him. Regular artist Erica Henderson (The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl) is hard at work (likely on some news that broke this weekend). Hitfix Harpy confirmed that issues #7 and #8 of the series will be drawn by Charm before Henderson is able to come back on the series with #9. The outlet has the cover debut for issue #7 and the collected edition– they even have preliminary sketches from Charm detailing what his take on Riverdale might look like.

Who else is interested in seeing what Charm has in store for the comic? Here’s a quote from Hitfix on his familiarity of the character:

I was definitely aware of Archie since I was a kid, but I didn’t really start looking closely at it until about 5 or so years ago when I got really into artists like Harry Lucey and Dan DeCarlo. I was really taken with the way they showed fashion and changing looks in the late 50’s/early 60’s in a way that seemed well observed. The first big 1000 page collection that came out around then was a huge eye-opener to what I’d been missing out on.

The first six issues are collected in June, giving readers a chance to check in with the series before Henderson steps back on the series. Catch Charm’s debut May 15.
