This Strange Tale II cover by Ivan Brunetti — revealed in Marvel’s December solicitations — has been justly lauded from coast to coast — just look at the expression on Dr. Strange’s face if you don’t believe us.

But we also like this Ozma of Oz cover by Skottie Young. We’ve seen a lot of Oz art in our day, and this takes it in a whole new direction that genuinely exciting.

  1. I’m sooo happy Marvel is letting Shanowar and Young do this OZ stuff. This is like a dream come true. I *really* hope Marvel lets them do all the books!

  2. Chris, they probably will… the quality is good enough, the franchise is well known (if little read…it was the Harry Potter of its day), and libraries are discovering graphic novels, so sales will improve.

My dream “Marvel Illustrated” title? John Carter as adapted by Frank Cho. An All Ages edition and special “adults only” slipcased edition. Since Disney/Pixar is adapting the first novel, this would be a no-brainer.

  3. That Ozma of Oz is so incredibly awesome and surprising that it’s coming from Marvel. Not that Marvel comics don’t have great covers, but if you showed me that cover without any logos and asked me which publisher it was from, Marvel would be on the very bottom of the list.

  4. This is really interesting, You’re a very skilled blogger. I have joined your feed and look forward to seeking more of your fantastic blog post. Also, I’ve shared your web site in my social networks!
