Well now. A new day, a new action-oriented reveal for a WB movie character, in this case, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle in next year’s THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.

Textured catsuit? Check.

Goggles? Check.

Red lipstick? Check.

Big-ass motorcycle? Check check check.

Just how Catwoman will be portrayed has been the subject of much speculation — just like everything about THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. Director Christopher Nolan likes to play things close to the vest. A few months ago an “insider” was quoted as saying:

Anne’s outfit is more tactical, like the comic book, than the previous Batman movies. She will definitely be wearing the goggles and it’s going to be less sexy than Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman costumes. She’s going to look more like a robber.

So maybe in this film “Catwoman” is a code for a robber and not a slinky cat-eared suit?

Nolan, you iconoclast.

  1. I hope this movie is good. I cannot see them topping The Dark Knight. I don’t know whether it was the greatest movie ever or anything, all I know is that I loved it when I first saw it and have loved it the six thousand times I’ve seen it since.

  2. I’m not sure how I feel about the high-tech goggles, but other than that, I like it so much better than the direction they’re taking the character in Batman: Arkham City.

  3. Why am I getting a Julie Newmar Catwoman vibe?! Would it killed them to put an full skullcap on her. The current Cooke design works so damn well. Hell, wouldn’t have minded the short hair either. Wasn’t everyone raving about how good Hathaway looked with it in her new film?

  4. Also… by now don’t people realize Nolan’s films have ALWAYS sucked at costuming? I gave up hoping for good superhero costumes in Batman Begins. They’re going for crappy real world versions, which is stupid. Yet aside from the costumes, the movies are pretty damn awesome. Well, another flaw was no decent female character and we finally have that fixed.

  5. well, as “real world” as these movies pretend to be, no one wearing that costume would ever be able to have a secret identity.

Hey, look, it’s Anne wearing sunglasses!

  6. That’s really kind of awesome. Of course, I sort of hope, ridiculous as it is, that she has some kind of cat connection beyond being a cat burgular, and maybe ears on something, possibly a cowl, but it works.

Yes, it’s hot, but not in a “How can she possibly rob anything in that?” way like the other two movie Catwoman outfits. So really, just the thing! Now, if only they write her well and Hathway can pull it off…

Matter of opinion, Xenos, and I don’t share yours. I’ve been perfectly happy with the character designs in Nolan’s trilogy so far.

    Completely disagree.

  9. I wouldn’t call them crappy, but they do seem to be designs by people who don’t like superheros. I mean, that’s just not Catwoman in any way, shape, or form when I look at her. That’s a woman in black cloths. Even for a “real world” version, I’m disappointed in the lack of imagination that went into it. But hey, it’s just one photo.
