It might officially be a “Superboy” cover, but where Superman’s concerned it’s an “Action” cover.

For a while now, the trope for DC is to have around half their line in a crossover on any given month.  Over on their blog, DC is hyping their January Annuals.  Sure enough, 3 out of 4 have Event tie-ins.

Here’s the breakdown:

SUPERBOY ANNUAL #1
Written by TOM DeFALCO
Art by YVEL GUICHET
Cover by EDDY BARROWS and EBER FERREIRA
On sale JANUARY 23 • 48 pg, FC, $4.99 US • RATED T

• As the battle to stop H’El rages on, Superman learns the truth about just what Superboy is…But is it the whole truth?
• Rose Wilson of The Ravagers crashes back into Superboy’s life — and she’s got some dangerous new ideas about his destiny!
• And if you thought the drama between Superboy and Superman was intense … Just wait until Rose’s father enters the mix!

Whether this is a full-on chapter of He’l on Earth, the Superman family crossover, or just shoe horned into the background, that first bullet pushes it as Event-related.

BATMAN AND ROBIN ANNUAL #1

Art by ARDIAN SYAF and VICENTE CIFUENTES
On sale JANUARY 30 • 48 pg, FC, $4.99 US • RATED T

• Robin leads Batman on an unrelenting hunt across the globe for family secrets that promise to change them both forever.
• If you think you know Bruce Wayne…think again!

That was our break from Events.

GREEN LANTERN: NEW GUARDIANS ANNUAL #1

Cover by SCOTT KOLINS

GREEN LANTERN CORPS ANNUAL #1
Written by PETER J. TOMASI
Art and cover by CHRISCROSS
On sale JANUARY 30 • 48 pg, FC, $4.99 US • RATED T

•“RISE OF THE THIRD ARMY” ends here!
• Thanks to the Third Army, the Guardians have shut down the Green Lantern Corps!
• Everything from the GREEN LANTERN comics from the past few months has been building to this.
• Get ready for a go-for-broke ending, which sets up the next great GREEN LANTERN event!

More Third Army action in the Green Lantern family of Annuals.  While it’s traditional to end a big storyline in an annual, they waste no time in telling you the next Green Lantern event is already set up.

  1. Why would someone pay extra for an additional issue that doesn’t tie into the story in the main series?

(A rhetorical question probably being asked by DC of itself, which is why these things are being tied to events).

  2. I cross my hands over my wallet as I pass the Cross Over titles. Sorry, not worth my money. But please feel free to play ” will he buy this?” again next Wednesday.
