Injury1Cover4WebVarious news and notes from Buenaventura Press

We’re excited to announce Ted May’s Injury Comics #1, with Jason Robards and Jeff Wilson. In a post-apocalyptic dystopia, May’s misanthropic cyborg Manleau is attacked by the Fighting Cock, a member of the feared Barnyard Animals gang. Can Manleau resist striking a bionic blow against this vicious gang banger as laughing street urchins look on? Also in this hot-rod premier issue: May draws punk artist Jeff Wilson’s tender story of his junior-high attempt to score his first joint and listen to some heavy metal – with hilarious consequences! And find out what happens when Hercules gets cloned . . . twice!

File this one under future-cyborg-mayhem-punk-weed-burnout-metal-garage comic/men’s issues. 32 pp.

Injury Comics #1 will be solicited in the July ’07 Previews for a September release but we’ll have some advance copies available next week for MoCCA ’07.

Comic Art Website Updated
We’ve updated the Comic Art website with a full list of the contents and sneak-peeks of the volume’s many essays, features, and comics. #9 weighs in at a whopping 208 pages and comes with a separate 80 page “classroom in a booklet” titled Cartooning: Philosophy and Practice by cartoonist and instructor Ivan Brunetti.

MoCCA Art Festival 2007
BP will have two tables at the MoCCA Art Festival on June 23-24, 2007 in the Puck Building, Manhattan, NY. We’ll debut the first issue of Ted May’s ongoing series Injury Comics, and Ted will be there to celebrate its release. Please stop by to see our just published Elvis Road by Swiss artists Helge Reumann and Xavier Robel. You have to see this amazing book yourself — no photo can do it justice.

In addition to May, cartoonist and Comic Art designer Jonathan Bennett will join us at the BP booth. And look out at MoCCA for Kramers Ergot contributors Matthew Thurber and Ben Jones, and Private Stash contributor Kim Deitch. See you there!
