May Day by Eric Drooker.
May Day by Walter Crane.
May Day in a traditional celebration around the Maypole.
May Day, akak Beltane, as it is celebrated in Edinburgh — dancing half naked around a fire.
We tried to find a picture of the traditional Beltane battle between Gwyn ap Nudd and Gwythur ap Greidawl for the hand of Creiddylad, as recounted in the Mabinogion, but came up empty.
Enjoy your May Day no matter how you celebrate it!
Hmm… you sure you spelled those names correctly?
“Creiddy, lad!” shall be my new Scots exclamation. The new “hoot, man”, if you will.
(and a Joyous Samhain to those south of the Equator.)
(And it seems that comicbook fans are celebrating it in their own way this weekend!)
We can also celebrate the First of May with a crazy little thing called… Jonathan Coulton (Viewer Discretion advised).
classic poster from eric drooker….lower east side…the squats and the park…yo..eric….move back to nyc!
Cool, you have a Walter Crane pic there. I’ve been reading about his work just this week in my “History of Graphic Design” class. I love his stuff. I think it’s efforts by guys like him that pictures weren’t taken out of books altogether. Which, in turn, helped the comic industry in a round about way. He stressed the potential beauty of books, in response to the mechanized, stale productions that came out of the industrial revolution.
This photo reminds me of some of the comicbook-burning parties we used to have back in the 1950’s when I lived down South.
