We’re hitting that point where SDCC announcements will start rolling in over the next four to five weeks. Studios will be unveiling their panel schedules and reporters like me will be hoping there’s some secrets to uncover wherever we can find them.

Last year, Marvel Studios sat out the festivities in San Diego, opting instead to present at D23, Disney’s own homegrown convention.

But there’s no D23 this year, since it’s a biennial affair, so we knew the chances of Kevin Feige and co. returning were quite good. And according to Scott Derrickson’s twitter feed, the director of the upcoming Doctor Strange lays it out concretely:

If I had to wager a guess, beyond Doctor Strange and its entire cast (including Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tilda Swinton, Mads Mikkelsen, etc) making an appearance, the odds are good James Gunn and the Guardians of the Galaxy crew may have some presence as well, if not an outright panel. I’ll make one last prediction and say this will be where we learn who is directing Captain Marvel.

Between this, and the huge Suicide Squad presence at the Con, this should make for an exciting weekend in San Diego.

  1. James Gunn answer to Derrickson’s tweet:

“Really? You’ll be so close. I might have to come see you.”

You can go to cash your wager, my friend…
