Diamond has just released the year end sales charts for 2017 and it was a close one, but Marvel had the #1 periodical comic of the year with Legacy #1. DC came in second with Metal #1. DC and Marvel split the top 10 comics, but Marvel had another year at #1, beating DC by 5-6% in both units and dollars.
However over in GNS, it was a different story with Image taking 8 of the top 10 spots. Brian K. Vaughan alone had four of the top 10. Walking Dead had another two and along with Monstress and, a bit surprisingly, Seven to Eternity.
DC had a Batman book and Oni’s Rick and Morty collection rounded it out.
Image was the #3 publisher, followed by IDW and Dark Horse.
Two of the top books of the year – Doomsday Clock #2 and the Resurrection of Jean Grey came out in the last month of the year so maybe things are looking up? I dunno.
Diamond has released the top 500 books and all their other charts for the year so I’ll be formatting those for the rest of the day.
Last year Diamond never really released their full charts for 2016, so direct comparisons are a little hard. I do have some commentary on all of this but I’ll post it after I inspect the rest of the charts,

Best selling to retailers bet most ended up as landfill
Garbage company staffed by garbsge humans like mark waid heather a dan sloth maga v salad terrorist and a host of others
The number one seller of trades is the one writer who doesn’t know how to finish a story properly. Funny.
Everyone knows Metal is a better story than that previews issue called Legacy.
Marvel are pathetic. They have the top ORDERED book and then no follow up. Four months and Wolverine is only just starting to appear in ‘1 page back up’ stories. Even typing that sounds stupid. Instead we have about 6 fake Wolverines (past, future, replacements and sidekicks of replacements).
Hopefully with the return of Phoenix being popular (instead of that fake teenage brat) other original characters will return …. but then again, it IS Marvel, so probably not.
“Garbage company staffed by garbsge humans like mark waid heather a dan sloth maga v salad terrorist and a host of others”
That was quite the word salad.
