I seem to recall a few years back that Marvel Studios was really hot on getting Mads Mikkelsen on-board with one of their productions, to the point where he was cast as Malekith in Thor: The Dark World, but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts with the then-debuting Hannibal.

Given what Christopher Eccleston went through on that troubled production, he surely made the right decision.

Nonetheless, Marvel still wants to be in the Mads business, as Variety is now reporting that the studio has entered into talks with the actor for a villainous role in Doctor Strange.

There’s no indication yet on just what role that might be, and Baron Mordo is already being played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, but given the guesses I’ve seen online, we’re likely looking at Dormammu. If that ends up being the case, hopefully Marvel will find a way to utilize the actor a good deal better than they managed with Malekith (seriously, anyone could have been under that makeup).

He would join an already impressive cast that includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton, Ejiofor, with rumors also circulating around Rachel McAdams for a part as well.

A great Mikkelsen film worth seeing: The Hunt, which is available on Netflix. I also quite like Valhalla Rising, but that’s got a much more narrow appeal.

Doctor Strange opens on November 4, 2016.

  1. Having Mads as an addition would ROCK the movie. He is just an awesome actor. He would make a great Doom (except they’d have to put a mask on him)
