Telltale Games, the developer of several episodic games based on comics such as The Walking Dead, Batman: The Enemy Within, and The Wolf Among Us, has reportedly laid off most of it’s staff.

Game Informer reported seeing worrying activity on social media:

A number of Telltale Games’ employees have posted on social media today indicating that they are looking for work, with many sharing both publicly and privately that Telltale has either closed its doors or is suffering its largest layoff so far.

The Verge had a few additional details:

The company will retain a small team of around 25. According to multiple sources The Verge spoke with, employees were let go with no severance.

This isn’t the first time there have been layoffs at Telltale, but the last year only saw 25% of staff cut. Earlier this summer, former CEO Kevin Bruner sued Telltale over his ousting.

What happens next is anybody’s guess, but I hope the experimental spirit of the company can survive in some form even if the company itself doesn’t.

  1. From everything I read, Telltale Games is in skeleton crew mode until the end of the year to support their remaining upcoming DLC, and then will shut down. It’s a pity. I hope all of the people involved find work soon.
