After the success of the darker and edgier Riverdale on the CW, it came to no surprise when a new television project based on the incredibly popular The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was announced.

Looks like the show has even more going for it with the news that Mad Men alumni Kiernan Shipka has been cast as the title role.

An empowered young woman, half-human, half-witch, Sabrina is just beginning her dark education as a sorceress, even as she tries to maintain a normal life as a sophomore at Baxter High. Intelligent, compassionate and brave to the point of recklessness, Sabrina is all that stands between us and the forces of darkness that threaten our world.

“We’re all such huge fans of Kiernan’s work that when we started talking about who this new incarnation of Sabrina could be, her name was on everyone’s wish list.” said executive producer and Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. “This is a darker, more macabre version of Sabrina, and we’re incredibly excited for people to see Kiernan make this iconic character her own.”

I’m sure most people who grew up watching ABC’s TGIF lineup have fond nostalgia memories of Melissa Joan Hart as everyone’s favorite teenage witch.

The one-hour drama comes with a twenty episode order with Riverdale showrunner and Archie CCO  Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa writing, Lee Toland Krieger directing, and Greg Berlanti producing along with Sarah Schecter, Jon Goldwater, Aguirre-Sacasa and Krieger serve as executive producers.

  1. I don’t like Riverdale but I’ll give this a try. I didn’t expect to like the comic as much as I did and I do like it.

  2. The comic was outstanding, but I doubt the content will make it onto CW. Netflix would of been a better fit I think. CW could push their boundaries though if they stay true to the source material.
