Kate Beaton’s DUCKS, an autobiographical comic about her time working at Fort McMurray runs five parts and here are links. Fort McMurray is part of mining operation around the Athabasca oil sands in northern Alberta.

Warning: it’s the opposite of funny.

  1. Calling the industry surrounding the Alberta oil sands “a remote mining camp” demonstrates a considerable ignorance of the size and scope of the operation, never mind the ecological consequences wrought.

  2. You have to make allowance for telling a good story, even in autobiography! For my money, it shows more depth than the usual (though not less precious) joke-a-day from Kate…

Not sure about “ming operation”, though I’m sure Kate Beaton could make a great cartoon out of that too! ;-) (Yes, yes, I know, nobody likes a smart alec, and typos do happen.)

  3. Cool:
Kate Beaton’s down-scroll-film-frame design/storytelling is a pleasure to read online (using my laptop).
