Sometimes when I sit and think about action/adventure movie veterans that would be perfect for superhero properties, my mind often crosses over to Joe Dante, the director of films like Gremlins and Innerspace. 20-25 years ago, I would have killed to see him behind the camera on a Hawkman feature (and I still think he’d be a pretty great fit for something with Marvel Studios).
But it looks like I’ll get a little bit of my wish, as Dante has signed on board to direct an episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, specifically episode 8 entitled “Night of the Hawk”, a piece of news reported initially by Den of Geek and then confirmed by Dante himself on Twitter. Exciting!
This announcement shows the CW looking to shake up their behind the camera talent and follows Lexi Alexander (Punisher: War Zone) directing an episode of Arrow this season.
Dante’s episode is expected to arrive sometime in March, as the series will begin in late January, taking the Thursday spot in The CW’s superhero line-up.
