The Dresden Files comic book has had a couple of homes.  Originally it was a Dabble Brothers comic.  When the Dabble Brothers operation came unraveled, Dresden Files was one of the properties that moved over to Dynamite.  The adaption of Storm Front (the first novel in the series) was completed at the title was dormant.  Well, not any more.  Jim Butcher has agreed to do new stories for the comic world, so this sounds like it will be cannon.

This isn’t Butcher’s first time writing for comics.  Prior to the Storm Front adaption, he penned the story for Welcome to the Jungle for Dabble Brothers.  That was a prequel to the first novel.

The new project, “Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files: Ghoul Goblin” will be a six issue mini-series taking place between Fool Moon (book 2) and Grave Peril (book 3).  Mark Powers will be co-writing with Butcher and Joseph Cooper.  The series will start in January 2013

DYNAMITE PRESENTS BRAND NEW DRESDEN SERIES FROM ACCLAIMED AUTHOR JIM BUTCHER!

JIM BUTCHER’S DRESDEN FILES: GHOUL GOBLIN #1 IS IN-STORES JANUARY 2013!

October 10th, 2012, Mt. Laurel, NJ – Acclaimed author Jim Butcher pens new stories in the Dresden Files universe as a comic book series with Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files: Ghoul Goblin #1!  Co-written with Mark Powers and drawn by Joseph Cooper, Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files: Ghoul Goblin #1 features covers from acclaimed artist Ardian (Batgirl) Syaf!  Coming in January 2013!

Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files: Ghoul Goblin #1, Harry Dresden has survived the events of Fool Moon – barely – but all is not well in his world. He’s still alienated from his closest friend, Karrin Murphy, and on exceedingly poor terms with Chicago’s number one gangster, John Marcone. And that’s just the small stuff — the creatures of the Nevernever don’t take vacations and aren’t particularly worried about Harry’s friendships or love life.

“It’s an honor to be a part of a brand-new, never before seen story set in the Dresdenverse,” says co-writer Mark Powers.  “Under Jim’s watchful eye, we’re doing everything in our power to create something worthy of the mythos.”

“Working with Jim, Rich and the entire Dynamite crew on Dresden has been an absolute thrill,” adds artist Joe Cooper. “I love the Dresden Files. Monsters, magic and mayhem. What’s not to love? I am truly excited and honored for the opportunity to spend some time in Harry’s world. This series should have a little something for everyone. I hope fans of the book and those picking it up for the first time have as much fun reading it as I’ve had drawing it. Hold onto your hats, should be a wild ride.”

“Having been involved editing the Dresden Files comics series from almost day one, and being a fan of the novels myself, it’s been fun to see Harry come to four color life from different artist perspectives,” states Dynamite’s Director of Business Development Rich Young. “I think people are really going to enjoy Joe’s take on the Dresden universe, while getting the chance to read a great all new original story from Jim and Mark.”

  1. Great news, Todd, thanks! A friend got me into the Dresden novels, and I’m currently on #8. As the press release was dated from Mt. Laurel, NJ, do you know if Butcher will be at the NYCC?
