Boilerplate, the not-so-historical mechanical man dreamed up by Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett, has been optioned by J.J. Abrams, whose Bad Robot production company reveals some robot-themed interests, going by the name alone. The film is in development at Paramount.

First published as a website, Boilerplate now stars in his own popular art book which feigns to tell the story of the world’s first robot, via a series of clever photo collages.

  1. If there ever was a project that is PERFECT for today’s state of the art movie making toolbox–Boilerplate is IT.
Cory and I couldn’t be happier for Anina and Paul!

  2. That’s terrific, I’m Boilerplate fan! Paul, why didn’t you tell me about this after we’d casually known each other for just five minutes last Friday?

  3. This is great news for Paul and Anina, they deserve this and more. They’ve worked hard for so many years and they are good people. Congrats, and I agree with Marder that this is pitch-perfect for today’s filmmaking.

  4. This is fun news! I hope my students will be able to see the movie if it indeed gets made. I used the Boilerplate website last year while teaching my middle school students about spoof websites, and some of the kids liked Boilerplate so much they turned one of the website’s photos into a wallpaper on the school library’s computers.
