The one-two-three of Buffy, Walking Dead and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles continues to dominate the top of the indie chart, but Boom’s new Peanuts comics, containing new strips not by Schulz, gets the number four spot. Other than that it’s a quiet month, although there are 21 debut series, specials and one-shots across the list.

Now into month three of the New DC, overall it appears that the much vaunted extra sales that were rumoured are just that, rumours. Most books are still firmly on a downward heading, with many titles at the lowest sales in their history, and those that are stable have a history of being stable. A lot of this month’s new books have started well, but none have unusually high sales, bar maybe the first part of Kiss vs Archie.

123 indie books charted this month, only 4 less than 2 months ago, but with the bottom book selling almost a thousand copies more, 4,330 to 3,341. This seems largely due to new books, with 22 debut comics on the chart this month. The bottom book sold 4,330 compared to last month’s 5,167, but there were only 87 indie titles last month, and this month’s number 87 sold 6,299.
In total those books sold approximately 1,099,699, up on last month’s 921,878, but this month’s top 87 sold 915,559, so like for like sales are pretty close. Still, average sales are 8,940 per book, down from last month’s 10,596. As usual, UK and European sales from Diamond UK are not reported in this chart.

This month Image were the number three publisher, with 5.36% dollar share and a 4.60 market share, followed by IDW with 5.28% dollar share and 3.65% market share, Dark Horse with a 4.56% dollar share and a 3.47% market share, Dynamite with a 4.56% dollar share and a 3.47% market share, and Boom with 1.64% dollar and 1.55% market share. All are up for the month, but all had more books chart than last month.

64. Buffy The Vampire Slayer (Dark Horse)

11/2007: Buffy the Vampire Slayer #8 - 91,595
11/2008: Buffy the Vampire Slayer #19 - 74,202
11/2009: Buffy the Vampire Slayer #30 - 49,155
11/2010: Buffy the Vampire Slayer #38 - 41,189
====

12/2010: Buffy the Vampire Slayer #39 - 40,010 (-2.9%)
01/2011: Buffy the Vampire Slayer #40 - 39,486 (-1.3%)
09/2011: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 #1 - 42,945 (+8.0%)
10/2011: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 #2 - 36,448 (-15.1%)
11/2011: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 #3 - 33,485 (-8.1%)

The drops are starting to smooth out, but this is way below the lowest this incarnation of Buffy has ever been. I would guess that a good chunk of the audience has moved over to trades.

68. The Walking Dead (Image)

11/2006: The Walking Dead #32 - 21,191
11/2007: The Walking Dead #44 - 22,569
11/2008: The Walking Dead #54 - 24,093

10/2011: The Walking Dead #90 - 31,778 (+1.4%)
11/2011: The Walking Dead #91 - 31,813 (+0.1%)

The juggernaut that is The Walking Dead trundles onwards and slightly upwards. In the trade chart, incredibly the seven year old first collection hits number four in the Graphic Novel charts, with 5,353 copies sold. There are 20 Walking Dead collections in the chart this month. Quite staggering.

97, 295. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ongoing (IDW)

08/2011: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ongoing #1 - 34,803 (39,180)
09/2011: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ongoing #2 - 19,333 (-44.4%)
10/2011: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ongoing #3 - 22,855 (+18.2%)
11/2011: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ongoing #4 - 22,898 (+1.8%)

Still on an upwards trend, this is really doing surprisingly well. In addition, the first issue sells another 4,377 copies to chart at 295. They’re now available across Europe and the UK, so overall sales will be likely another 3-4,000 on top of this for each issue. A nice hardback collection of the original series charts at 25 with sales of 2,103.

103. Peanuts (Boom!)

11/2011: Peanuts #0 - 22,644

A very good start, considering Peanuts has never really been that strong in the comics market. I’ve got to admit I’m not keen on the idea of this book, which mixes reprints of Schulz’s classic strips with new material by other creators. I consider Peanuts to be a one-man book, just as Calvin & Hobbes was, and I think that Schulz produced enough that we don’t need watered down versions that could dilute the concept. I mean, has anyone ever said, “Hmm, I just don’t think 17,897 Peanuts strips was enough”?

117. Angel & Faith (Dark Horse)

11/2006: Auld Lang Syne #1 - 8,057
11/2007: After the Fall #1 - 47,563 [65,293]
11/2008: After the Fall #14 - 38,954

03/2011: Angel #43 - 13,032 (-0.8%)
04/2011: Angel #44 - 12,897 (-1.0%)
05-07/2011: -
08/2011: Angel & Faith #1 - 22,813 (+76.9%)
09/2011: Angel & Faith #2 - 20,473 (-10.3%)
10/2011: Angel & Faith #3 - 19,437 (-5.1%)
11/2011: Angel & Faith #4 - 18,855 (-2.9%)

Levelling out quite nicely, but I’m still a bit confused as to why this is selling so behind Buffy, as it’s following plots that have spun out of Season 8, and you’d think most of the Buffy readership is made up of hardcore fans of the show.

122. Flash Gordon Zeitgeist (Dynamite)

11/2011: Flash Gordon Zeitgeist #1 - 18,288

Produced under the aegis of Alex Ross, and written by Eric Trautman this takes the character back to his WWII roots. It’s done pretty well, really.

124. Star Trek Legion of Superheroes (IDW)

10/2011: Star Trek Legion of Superheroes #1 - 20,950
11/2011: Star Trek Legion of Superheroes #2 - 17,782 (-15.1%)

Not too bad a drop, this is still punching well above it’s weight for this type of project.

127. Archie (Archie)

11/2008: Archie #591 - 2,662
11/2009: Archie #603 - 25,799
11/2010: Archie #615 - 3,944

10/2011: Archie #626 - ???? (???)
11/2011: Archie #627 - 17,387 (???)

These excellent sales are as a result of the first part of Archie Meets Kiss, which is running through the next four issues, and brings the best sales since Archie Gets Married two years ago.

128. The Boys (Dynamite)

11/2006: The Boys #5 (DC) - 26,842
11/2007: The Boys #12 - 29,754

10/2011: The Boys #59 - 17,533 (-0.7%)
11/2011: The Boys #60 - 17,323 (-1.2%)

Super-consistent, dropping about 200 copies a month. The ninth collection charted at number 3 with first month sales of 5,673 copies.

131. Game of Thrones (Dynamite)
09/2011: Game of Thrones #1 - 20,888
10/2011: Game of Thrones #2 - 16,094 (-22.9%)
11/2011: Game of Thrones #3 - 15,983 (-0.7%)

Smoothing right out almost immediately, this is very promising for the fantasy flavor of the month. The second series of the tv show starts in April, probably just in time for the first collection of this series.

135, 138. Invincible (Image)

11/2006: Invincible #36 - 13,473
11/2007: Invincible #46 - 14,409

11/2011: Invincible #84 - 15,067 (-1.2%)
11/2011: Invincible #85 - 14,678 (-2.6%)

Dropping a bit with two issues out this month, this is the lowest it’s been for a while but still performing well. It doesn’t have the trade sales that Walking Dead has though, with not a single Invincible collection charting this month.

140. Star Wars Crimson Empire III (Dark Horse)

10/2011: Star Wars Crimson Empire III #1 - 19,095
11/2011: Star Wars Crimson Empire III #2 - 14,524 (-23.9%)

Quite a big second issue drop, but this is the best-selling Star Wars book at the moment.

146. PC Cast House of Night (Dark Horse)

11/2011: PC Cast House of Night #1 - 13,860

A tie-in to the popular young-adult series about, oh yes, vampires, this isn’t an adaptation but new companion stories. I’d imagine this is firmly aimed at the Buffy crowd, with the same cover artist, but I’m not sure if these are good order numbers. It’ll be a couple of months till we know how successful it truly is.

150. Butcher Baker (Dynamite)

12/2010: Highland Laddie #5 - 14,855
01/2011: Highland Laddie #6 - 14,214

10/2011: Butcher Baker Candlestickmaker #4 - 14,303 (-2.1%)
11/2011: Butcher Baker Candlestickmaker #5 - 13,668 (-4.4%)

Quite a large drop for this series, a good way lower than the last series ended.

152. Star Wars Dark Times (Dark Horse)

08/2011: Star Wars Dark Times Out of The Wilderness #1 - 18,548 (+15.6%)
09/2011: Star Wars Dark Times Out of The Wilderness #2 - 14,870 (-19.8%)
10/2011: -
11/2011: Star Wars Dark Times Out of The Wilderness #3 - 13,651 (-8.2%)

Starting to level out, but still dropping at a faster rate than is particularly healthy for the future of this book.

 154. Spawn (Image)

11/2006: Spawn #162 - 25,069
11/2007: Spawn #172 - 23,628

09/2011: Spawn #211 - 13,526 (-4.1%)
10/2011: Spawn #212 - 13,483 (-0.3%)
11/2011: Spawn #213 - 13,369 (-0.8%)

Pretty stable at the moment, although the last 3 months have each set a new low in sales figures.

155. Star Trek Ongoing (IDW)

09/2011: Star Trek Ongoing #1 - 15,943
10/2011: Star Trek Ongoing #2 - 13,198 (-17.2%)
11/2011: Star Trek Ongoing #3 - 13,296 (+0.7%)

A slight uptick, suggesting that retailers slightly under-estimated this book’s appeal.

157,161. Haunt (Image)

11/2011: Haunt #18 - 12,840 (-4.5%)
11/2011: Haunt #19 - 12,195 (-5.0%)

It’s a little surprising how low this book’s dropped over the past five months when you look at the astonishing sales that Greg Capullo’s helped bring to Batman. These are his last two issues, with Joe Casey & Nathan Fox taking over the next issue.

159. Star Wars: Invasion Revelations (Dark Horse)

12/2010: Star Wars Invasion: Rescues #6 - 13,547 (-7.0%)

10/2011: Revelations #4 - 13,313 (-3.0%)
11/2011: Revelations #5 - 12,632 (-5.1%)

Another Star Wars series shedding readers way faster than it should be at this point.

162. Warlord of Mars (Dynamite)

11/2011: Jennifer Blood #6 - 11,660 (-5.5%)

Ennis’ last issue as sales continue to plummet, not looking good for the incoming Al Ewing. Despite this there’s a spin-off series coming, The Ninjettes.

165. Warlord of Mars Dejah Thoris (Dynamite)

03/2011: Dejah Thoris #1 - 18,432

Quite a nasty drop this month, and getting worse month-by-month.

166. Star Wars Knight Errant (Dark Horse)

11/2011: Star Wars Knight Errant Deluge #4 - 11,407 (-4.4%)

The drops are getting smaller, but there’s only one more issue to go. There’s probably not going to be any more of this one.

Yet another long running series marking its worst ever single issue sales, albeit by only a couple of hundred copies. The newest trade collection charted at number 9 with sales of 3,223, and the new Hellboy HC, an OGN, charted at number 2 with sales of 8,646.

170. Kevin Smith's Bionic Man (Dynamite)

08/2011: Kevin Smith's Bionic Man #1 - 17,187
09/2011: Kevin Smith's Bionic Man #2 - 12,343 (-28.2%)

11/2011: Kevin Smith's Bionic Man #4 - 10,746 (-4.3%)

Starting to level out, I would imagine Dynamite aren’t going to go down the route of lots of tie-ins, as they did with Smith’s Green Hornet.

171. Dollhouse Epitaphs (Dark Horse)

10/2011: Dollhouse Epitaphs #4 - 10,888 (+0.2%)
11/2011: Dollhouse Epitaphs #5 - 10,531 (-3.2%)

These last few issues have been fairly stable, but Dark Horse have stated there won’t be any more Dollhouse for the foreseeable future.

Still very stable, one more issue before the re-launch, I believe.

174. Kirby Genesis Captain Victory (Dynamite)

11/2011: Captain Victory #1 - 10,438
187. Kirby Genesis Silver Star (Dynamite)

11/2011: Kirby Genesis Silver Star #1 - 9,400

As the mother title takes a month off, two spin-offs launch, both with fairly underwhelming debut sales. These characters have never been particularly successful historically, and it looks like these series are following that tradition.

176, 201. Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie)

11/2006: Sonic #168 - 7,293
11/2007: Sonic #182 - 6,955

11/2011: Sonic #230 - 10,372 (+6.2%)
11/2011: Sonic #231 - 8,646 (-16.6%)

These slightly odd figures this month are actually easily explainable. #230 had a variant cover, and shipped in the first week of the month, #231 did not, and shipped the last week, so some of the sales probably went over into the next month, although likely not enough to show up on next month’s chart.

177. Godzilla Legends (IDW)

10/2011: Godzilla Legends #1 - 10,330
182. Godzilla Kingdom of Monsters (IDW)

03/2011: Godzilla Kingdom of Monsters #1 - 58,879 [69,662]

10/2011: Godzilla Kingdom of Monsters #8 - 10,637 (-4.5%)
11/2011: Godzilla Kingdom of Monsters #9 - 9,879 (-7.1%)

The new spin-off beats the monthly title, which isn’t showing any real signs of stabilizing. The collection of the Gangsters & Goliaths mini-series charts at 88 with sales of 1,179.

179. True Blood (IDW)

11/2011: True Blood French Quarter #3 - 10,118 (-4.6%)

It’s now lost almost two-thirds of its readership over the course of 15 issues, and is still dropping, so unless the collections are doing well in the book market (as they don’t seem to be doing massively well in the direct market), this probably doesn’t have much rope left.

Quite a bad drop this month takes it to lower than before the relaunch and below 10,000 copies for the first time.

11/2011: Morning Glories #14 - 9,850 (-2.4%)

Also dropping below 10,000, the lowest in over a year. The first hardcover charted at 105 with sales of 1,080, but was misprinted, missing some quite important speech bubbles. Retailers were asked to take it off sale while Image sorted out stickers, but these don’t seem to have surfaced yet, meaning the book entirely missed the Christmas sales season.

Very late, as is the Avatar way, but generally it’s been pretty stable over the run of the book.

Back up a little after last issue’s big drop, which I suspect may have lost some copies into the next month, as it shipped in the last week of September.

After last month’s slight rise, the drops continue. Another one that probably doesn’t have much more rope.

190. Ghostbusters Ongoing (IDW)

Levelling out very nicely.

10/2011: Hellraiser #6 - 9,715 (-5.7%)
11/2011: Hellraiser #7 - 9,263 (-4.7%)

Drops are slowing up a bit, but not as fast as Boom would like, I suspect.

193. Dark Shadows (Dynamite)

11/2011: Dark Shadows #1 - 9,090

Obviously launched to cash in on next year’s Johnny Depp-starring movie, this is continuing from the end of the TV show. Not bad figures I think, considering the publicity for the movie hasn’t really started yet. Quite a way below Warlords of Mars though, which is in a similar situation.

196. Rachel Rising (Abstract)

12/2010: Echo #26 - 8,722 (+0.3%)

10/2011: -
11/2011: Rachel Rising #3 - 8,872 (+8.3%)

A very healthy increase, as orders start catching up with sales. This isn’t a surprise considering that the first two issues have been reprinted.

197. Green Hornet (Dynamite)

Seemingly dropping to bi-monthly frequency, this is another book that really isn’t looking very healthy at the moment.

A slight jump up, despite there only having been seven regular issues in the last 3 years.

A slightly surprising drop, considering the very positive reviews this book has been getting.

10/2011: -
11/2011: Guide to Known Keys One-Shot - 8,529 (+9.9%)

Okay, so either last issue’s drop wasn’t as severe as it appeared, as it shipped in the last week of the month and some sales slipped into the following month, or trade-watchers have picked this up, in case it’s not in any of the collections. Or more likely, a mix of the two.

Pretty stable, with the penultimate issue by this creative team, the grand finale next month should give this book a shot in the arm.

207. Dungeons and Dragons Drizzt (IDW)

08/2011: Dungeons & Dragons Drizzt #1 - 9,855

10/2011: Dungeons and Dragons #12 - 8,274 (-2.0%)
11/2011: Dungeons and Dragons #13 - 7,902 (-4.5%)

Drizzt smoothes right out above its parent book, which is dropping a bit fast. It wouldn’t surprise me if IDW go back to mini-series alone soon.

209. Irredeemable (Boom!)

11/2009: Irredeemable #8 - 13,688
11/2010: Irredeemable #19 - 11,102

10/2011: Irredeemable #30 - 8,419 (-1.9%)
11/2011: Irredeemable #31 - 8,229 (-2.3%)

Still dropping, but we’ve seen that this book sells as much in trade collections as single issues, so there’s a lot of rope left here.

211. Warlord of Mars: Fall of Barsoom (Dynamite)

07/2011: Fall of Barsoom #1 - 11,192
08/2011: Fall of Barsoom #2 - 9,812 (-12.3%)

10/2011: Fall of Barsoom #3 - 8,962 (-8.7%)
11/2011: Fall of Barsoom #4 - 7,978 (-11.0%)

Wow, this is dropping like a brick, losing a thousand copies a month on average.

10/2011: -
11/2011: Hack Slash #9 - 7,907 (+2.2%)

The slight increase this month might be due to the appearance of Bomb Queen, who’s appearing in the current storyline.

215. Mass Effect Invasion (Dark Horse)

01/2011: Evolution #1 – 8,944
02/2011: Evolution #2 - 7,825 (-12.5%)

10/2011: Mass Effect Invasion #1 - 8,607 (+10.1%)
11/2011: Mass Effect Invasion #2 - 7,876 (-8.5%)

That’s quite a good second issue drop, possibly indicating raised awareness of the next installment of the game out in March.

216, 219. Red Sonja (Dynamite)

11/2006: Red Sonja #16 - 25,644
11/2007: Red Sonja #27 - 19,298

11/2011: Red Sonja #58 - 7,876 (-0.2%)
11/2011: Red Sonja #59 - 7,759 (-1.5%)

Fairly stable, but running really late, despite two issues shipping this month, it’s still 6 months behind.

217. Orchid (Dark Horse)

10/2011: Orchid #1 -18,942
11/2011: Orchid #2 -7,868 (-58.5%)

Oh dear, that’s an awful second issue drop, even bearing in mind that the first issue was only a dollar.

06-10/2011: -
11/2011: Black Axe #3 - 7,779 (-11.2%)

Massive gaps between issues but it’s still selling within the range of previous series. This is a book with a much bigger audience in collections, anyway.

221. Witch Doctor (Image)

06/2011: Witch Doctor #1 - 12,592
07/2011: Witch Doctor #2 - 7,410 (-41.2%)

10/2011: -
11/2011: Witch Doctor #3 - 7,651 (-0.1%)

This has done pretty well, finding its level very quickly, and with a special out just before Christmas.

01/2011: Lady Death #1 - 14,023 (-10.5%)

10/2011: Lady Death #10 - 7,997 (+26.3%)
11/2011: Lady Death #11 - 7,596 (-5.0%)

Unusually for Avatar, this book has stuck rigidly to schedule, but it’s still losing sales at a critical rate.

225. Mega Man (Archie)

05/2011: Mega Man #1 - 12,586
06/2011: Mega Man #2 - 7,713 (-38.7%)

10/2011: Mega Man #6 - 7,474 (-14.5%)
11/2011: Mega Man #7 - 7,500 (+0.3%)

A welcome uptick after last month’s big drop. Of course, this has sales outside the comics market.

10/2011: Doctor Who Vol. 2 #10 - 7,481 (+2.1%)
11/2011: Doctor Who Vol. 2 #11 - 7,319 (-2.2%)

Losing last month’s gain, which actually isn’t a bad thing, being as the book is pretty solid. The collection of the Fairytale Life mini-series charts at 99 with sales of 1,092.

10/2011: Cobra #6 - 8,927 (-1.6%)
11/2011: Cobra #7 - 7,177 (-19.6%)

A big drop, but it did ship on the last week of the month, so has probably slipped some sales into the December.

10/2011: Sonic Universe #33 - 7,244 (+3.1%)
11/2011: Sonic Universe #34 - 7,117 (-1.8%)

A slight drop, but to the second best sales the series has ever had through the direct market, so still pretty good.

10/2011: Dark Horse Presents #5 - 7,539 (-9.9%)
11/2011: Dark Horse Presents #6 - 7,017 (-6.9%)

Still not finding its level, but an upcoming Hellboy appearance may give it a shot in the arm.

Exceedingly late, the schedule’s been wrecked by Nick Spencer’s sudden mainstream explosion, but with several of those books being cancelled he’s returned to finish this miniseries.

Tarot’s lost almost a thousand readers in the last year; you’d think that Jim Balent will be a bit concerned. Might we see a return to the mainstream?

An erratic schedule but holding relatively level at the moment. I believe this is due to end fairly soon, having slightly failed to spark the same level of love that Bone has gained.

Just horrific attrition, this book’s now lost around 80% of its sales in 4 issues. If it continued at this rate it would be selling 1,000 copies in 5 issues time…

Sales level out for the moment, with a crossover with Irredeemable starting next month.

245. Heart (Image)

11/2011: Heart #1 - 6,392

Written by gaming channel G4 presenter Blair Butler, I would have expected this to debut higher, but it may be that retailers have under-estimated this one.

10/2011: GFT Halloween Special 2011 - 6,428 (-21.4%)
11/2011: Grimm Fairy Tales #65 - 6,389 (-0.6%)

This issue features a revamp of Jack the Giant Killer, and the male lead brings a big drop in sales for the regular series.

248. Sergio Aragones Funnies (Bongo)

07/2011: Sergio Aragones Funnies #1 - 9,419
08/2011: Sergio Aragones Funnies #2 - 7,439 (-21.0%)
09/2011: Sergio Aragones Funnies #3 - 6,859 (-7.8%)
10/2011: Sergio Aragones Funnies #4 - 6,482 (-5.5%)
11/2011: Sergio Aragones Funnies #5 - 6,334 (-2.2%)

This seems to be finding its sales level, but it is a shame that this book doesn’t have a bigger audience befitting its creator.

250. Super Dinosaur (Image)

04/2011: Super Dinosaur #1 - 12,473
05/2011: Super Dinosaur #2 - 9,945 (-20.3%)

10/2011: - Super Dinosaur #5 - 7,380 (-11.1%)
11/2011: - Super Dinosaur #6 - 6,299 (-14.6%)

The drops are getting quite alarming here; unless things stabilize I can’t see much of a future for this book. The first collection charts at 38 with sales of 1,903, sadly probably not good enough to save the book.

254. The Strange Talent of Luther Strode (Image)

10/2011: The Strange Talent of Luther Strode #1 - 8,338
11/2011: The Strange Talent of Luther Strode #2 - 6,161 (-26.1%)

A big drop, but both issues have gone to second print, and next issue should give us a clearer idea of sales.

256, 274. GFT Presents Neverland Hook (Zenescope)

11/2011: GFT Presents Neverland Hook #1 - 6,140 (-3.9%)

10/2011: -
11/2011: Futurama Comics #58 - 6,138 (-1.8%)

Stable as a very stable thing, ending the year better than it started.

259. Cold War (IDW)

12/2010: Next Men #1 - 13,204
01/2011: Next Men #2 - 8,882 (-32.7%)

09/2011: -
10/2011: Cold War #1 - 7,934
11/2011: Cold War #2 - 5,881 (-25.9%)

A big drop for the second issue, but this is only a mini, with Next Men back in a couple of months.

11/2011: Last Phantom #10 - 5,766 (-1.9%)

Just an annual and one more issue to go, then this is cancelled.

262. The Occultist (Dark Horse)

11/2011: The Occultist - 5,701

New random magic-based series that launches with the sort of figures you’d expect for a random magic-based series. Fairly underwhelming, particularly since it was on a Previews cover.

10/2011: Darkness #94 - 5,632 (-3.8%)

Still dropping, but heading towards issue 100 and the increase that will no doubt bring.

10/2011: Caligula #4 - 5,895 (-10.1%)
11/2011: Caligula #5 - 5,424 (-8.0%)

Sales are falling fast now, but there’s only one issue to go.

267. Elric: The Balance Lost (Boom!)

08/2011: The Balance Lost #2 - 6,643 (-32.8%)
09/2011: The Balance Lost #3 - 6,345 (-4.4%)
10/2011: The Balance Lost #4 - 5,758 (-9.3%)
11/2011: The Balance Lost #5 - 5,409 (-6.1%)

I would imagine this needs to find its level sooner rather than later if it has any future.

268. Bart Simpson Comics (Bongo)

12/2010: Bart Simpson Comics #57 - 5,622 (-6.6%)

10/2011: -
11/2011: Kill Human #4 - 5,385 (-6.1%)

Levelling out a little for the last issue.

271. Hack Slash / Eva (Dynamite)

09/2008
10/2011:

Rather a throwaway project this, with predictably poor sales.

273. Kull (Dark Horse)

11/2011: The Cat & The Skull #2 - 5,186 (-17.0%)

A bad drop, I can’t see much future for Kull at these sales levels.

10/2011: Darkwing Duck #17 - ???? (???)
11/2011: Darkwing Duck #18 - 5,096 (???)

It missed the chart last month, but this is the last issue, Boom having lost the Disney license.

277. Legend of Oz The Wicked West (Big Dog Ink)

11/2011: Legend of Oz The Wicked West #1 - 5,076

A new company on the charts, with a western twist on the Oz characters. I’d imagine they’re very happy with these sales.

11/2011: Savage Dragon #176 - 4,583 (-8.1%)

Another one with two issues this month, although last month’s issue missed the chart. A bit of a rise (presumably), and then a fairly big drop.

282. Hawken (IDW)

11/2011: Hawken #1 - 4,941

A new black and white supernatural western book from Tim Truman and his son, Ben. Not great figures, but this is an odd project so they’re to be expected.

283. HP Lovecraft The Dunwich Horror (IDW)

10/2011: Dunwich Horror #1 - 5,802
11/2011: Dunwich Horror #2 - 4,906 (-15.4%)

Not too bad a second issue drop.

285. Executive Assistant Iris (Aspen)

06/2011: Executive Assistant Iris Vol. 2 #0 - 6,929 (+3.7%)
07/2011: Executive Assistant Iris Vol. 2 #1 - 7,021 (+1.3%)

10/2011: Executive Assistant Iris Vol. 2 #4 - 5,309(-3.5%)
11/2011: Executive Assistant Iris Vol. 2 #5 - 4,757(-10.4%)

Plummeting in sales, this series really hasn’t done too well.

286. Mudman (Image)

11/2011: Mudman #1 - 4,742

Slightly disappointing sales, but then Paul Grist has always done better in the UK than the US, and those figures aren’t here. This is a really good book, so hopefully it’ll pick up a little.

288. 7 Warriors (Boom!)

11/2011: 7 Warriors #1 - 4,710

I believe this is a reprint of a French album.

291. Our Love is Real (Image)

11/2011: Our Love is Real One-Shot - 4,589

An indie sensation in self-publishing, this reprint does a fairly good number considering the creators are relatively little-known.

294. Salem's Daughter (Zenescope)

07/2011: Salem’s Daughter one shot (part 6) - 6,423 (-4.1%)
08/2011: Salem's Daughter Haunting #1 - 5,171 (-19.4%)

10/2011: The Theater #1 - 5,469
11/2011: The Theater #2 - 4,374 (-20.0%)

Two of Zenescope’s newer comics losing readers rather fast.

10/2011: -
11/2011: Death Valley #5 - 4,368 (-13.4%)

The drops are accelerating badly.

298. Blood Red Dragon (Image)

10/2011: Blood Red Dragon #0 - ????
11/2011: Blood Red Dragon #1 - 4,367 (???)

This is a weird one. Art directed by Todd McFarlane and Stan Lee is involved in it in some way, it stars a Japanese rock star called Yoshiki, and is limited to 5,000 copies per issue. I would imagine it’ll be bigger in Japan.

300. Charismagic (Aspen)

04/2011: Charismagic #1 - 6,625
05/2011: -
06/2011: -

09/2011: -
10/2011: -
11/2011: Charismagic #3 - 4,330 (-18.3%)

Probably its last appearance on the chart if the drops continue at this rate.

======

All figures on this chart are estimates for comics sold by Diamond to direct market retailers. They include reorders that shipped in the same month. Books shipping in the first week of a month will have more time for reorders to appear than ones shipping in the last week of the month, when reorders will slip to the following month.

  1. “Now into month three of the New DC, overall it appears that the much vaunted extra sales that were rumoured are just that, rumours. Most books are still firmly on a downward heading, with many titles at the lowest sales in their history, and those that are stable have a history of being stable.”

That makes perfect sense. Comic stores on the whole only have x number of dollars to spend on orderIng comics, so it makes sense there are less indie books being ordered if there are more DC books being ordered.

  2. Great to see TMNT doing so well. Its not the best mind you, but still better than some and I’m enjoying it.

Greg Capullo wasn’t even a factor in my purchasing Batman. It was Snyder all the way Baby! :) – I actually hadn’t even purchased anything by him, but I am liking it.

Really surprised POTA isn’t doing better. Its a great read.

  3. Regarding Haunt, I was only buying for Kirkman completeness sake (I’m now over it, with titles like Infinite being dropped), and I skipped town the instant it was made known he was leaving.

You might see further drops from Infinite Vacation, as the most recent issue was rather disturbing (one universe’s version of the main character rapes, mutilates, and cannibalizes another universe’s version–yay, comics!).

You might see gains from Hack/Slash next month. I think it was overshipped, as I was handed a free copy of issue 10.

Paul, forgive my ignorance, but when you say, “It’s done pretty well, really.” in regards to Flash Gordon, do you mean it has done well saleswise or it is a rather well done story? I suspect the latter, but I just want to be clear.

Finally, I recommend a look at Luther Strode. It’s kind of Kick Ass meets Hellraiser. I’m a little surprised it dropped, as my big chain comic store ordered a lot more of the second issue after they sold the first issue quickly. Goes to show how effective that kind of anecdotal data is.

  4. Bummer about G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero. It’s the real Joe comic as far as I’m concerned. I bought the first issue at a drugstore when I was a kid and it feels more like G.I. Joe than IDW’s other titles.

  5. Hey Ras, I actually meant the sales had done pretty well, but I quite enjoyed the book as well. It’s difficult to do something new with the story as the film is so engrained into people’s heads, but this did well.

I agree about Luther Strode too, I think it’s a great book.

  6. Thanks, Paul. I’m going to give Flash a try if I see it on the shelves.

Shawn, the IDW GIJoes spent so much time distancing themselves from the Marvel/Devil’s Due books and ignoring all of the existing relationships that I had enough pretty quickly. I didn’t know about the Hama book until it was out for a while, and I never went back and picked them up. I’m part of the problem! I imagine, with the numbering, that they ignore what was done at Devil’s Due? I guess that’s alright, as there were times when the Devil’s Due series could feel like enthusiastic fanfic.

  7. Hack Slash/EVA “Rather a throwaway project this, with predictably poor sales.”

This is selling just a few hundred copies behind what the main Hack Slash series was selling before it went to Image. I think the success of this “throwaway project” shows how moving to Image has increased the popularity of Hack Slash.

I believe Conan: Road of Kings was only ever scheduled to be twelve issues.

You might want to mention that the Flash Gordon comic was only $1.

  8. I actually really like the direction IDW has taken the G.I. Joe franchise, especially with the Cobra title, which was one of the best espionage comics I’ve ever read. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like readers are flocking to their rebooted universe. My guess is that if the Cobra Command storyline doesn’t take off, we might be looking at yet another Joe reboot down the road, possible even with a different publisher.

  9. Too bad about the Morning Glories trade having such serious printing errors. I imagine that hurts the books chances for future success rather badly.

  10. PeterCSM730 – Well yes, but the trades are still selling exceptionally well, so I think it’s a slight bump rather than a bad hit.
