Thing From Another World, the pop culture chain store, is seeking a manager for their Portland, OR store. And yes, there WILL be a written exam. Details below:

Are you a comic book manager who is the best there is at what you do? Or maybe you’re a retail manager with an extensive knowledge of comics looking to shift into the industry you love? If so, premier comic book retailer Things From Another World (TFAW.com) is looking for you! TFAW is conducting a nationwide search for the world’s best comic shop manager for their brand-new Portland, Oregon location. And yes, a competitive salary and benefits package, as well as a relocation allowance, are available for the right candidate.

Having played an important role in launching the Portland TFAW store, Manager Sean Wynn is refocusing his talents on the Milwaukie TFAW location to make it better than ever! There are a lot of planned changes ahead, and Sean’s expertise will play a vital role in the re-imagining of this location. With Wynn’s attention focused on this new project, an opportunity has opened up for an innovative, creative, and hard-working manager for TFAW’s new Portland store.

“We’ve just launched one of the best comic book shops in the country, and we’re looking for the best manager in the nation to take it to the next level,” said TFAW Senior Director of Retail Operations Andrew McIntire. “Everyone knows that Portland is one of the greatest comic cities in the world, and our hometown contingent of applicants will be massive. However, I invite all contenders to step up and knock our socks off–show us what makes you the best of the best.” McIntire then announced that TFAW would be doing something a little different with their hiring process. “We know that there are hordes of amazing people who will apply for this position. While we will be extending an offer of employment to the best of them, we will also reward both our second and third runners up with a $250 gift certificate. We know that it can sting to come so close, and we hope that a ton of free comics will help lessen the blow.”

The new Portland TFAW store launched June 2, 2012 at 2916 NE Broadway, Portland, OR. Boasting nearly twice the square footage of their previous Portland-area location, this gorgeous store has provided TFAW with the opportunity to expand its selection of graphic novels, comics, statues, toys, and gaming supplies. It’s also a prime location for events like signings, gallery exhibitions, gaming nights, and more. To learn more about the opportunity, visit us at http://www.tfaw.com/jobs today.

What would you do with a brand-new comic shop in one of the most comics industry-friendly cities in the world? If you have a deep knowledge of the comics retail industry, if you have a tireless passion for comics, and if you work harder than anyone else you know, contact TFAW’s HR department at [email protected] with the subject line “Why I’m the Best Comic Shop Manager in the World.” Tell us exactly what you’ve achieved, and what your plans would be for our new location. Please include your cover letter, resume, and salary history–any submissions received without all three will not be considered. All submissions will be kept confidential. Wow us with why you should be our next manager today!

  1. I checked out the link to find out about the position, and liked what I read. I especially liked the focus on staff mentoring, and excellent customer service.
A competitive salary, health coverage and a sponsored gym membership! That speaks volumes in how this place treats and retains their people.

Best of luck to all, hope this works out.
