We have much to be thankful for this year, and hope that everyone reading this is enjoying a safe, happy holiday.

One of the things we have to be grateful for is that Norman Rockwell’s “Freedom From Want” — of a series of four paintings saluting the Four Basic Freedoms– has to be one of the most parodied images of all times, so we always have something to post here.

BTW, while we were trolling around for pictures, we found this eerie photo of an early Macy’s Parade. Sometimes you forget just how incredible those balloons are.

  2. I didn’t know KFC was doing fried turkey.

    I hear that’s a very dangerous dinner to cook – as watching last Monday’s episode of Truama will attest.

    My old high school girlfriend’s youngest daughter was one of the ballerinas in the Billy Elliot’s the Muscial segment on this morning’s Macy’s Thanksgiving day parade.

    Now I know where I screwed up in life.

  3. Happy Thanksgiving, to all hear at the Beat. I’m spending it with the three women who have impacted my life the most. My Wife, my mother, and my daughter. I’m one of the luckiest guys in the world. I have a great family, a great job, and something I’ve written is being made into a movie. ( called Advent, by the way) Yes my friends, life it good, and it all comes from one thing… Being grateful. There’s always something to be grateful for no matter how bad things seem. From their, you can build your life into anything you want it to be.

  5. While life could be better, it could be a lot worse, so I am thankful that Life is not very full of surprises.

    I am also thankful that the Beatrix allows me an opportunity to share my crazy cornucopia of cultural cognization…

    The MAD DVD-ROM, Absolutely MAD, lists 16 mentions of Norman Rockwell, but does not index influences. The earliest example I can find is “The Saturday Evening Pest” from #39, May 1958. The art looks like Bob Clarke. Nobody does “horny young man” quite like Bob Clarke!

    The most recent Rockwell “homage” is found in this quarter’s issue, part of the dumbest things of 2009 article. It features the just-as-iconic “Freedom of Speach” painting, and is hilarious! (The biggest joke is paying $6 for the mag, and it contains reprints!)
