Awards season is underway! And GLAAD has announced its annual media award nominees to “recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives. Although many have questioned why GLAAD only focuses on big publishers comics (often only Marvel and DC) the intention of the award is to spotlight major media entities that deal with LGBTQ issues. Certainly this year’s nominees for OUtstanding do deal directly with these issues more than in past years:

• Angela: Queen of Hel, by Marguerite Bennett, Kim Jacinto, Israel Silva and Stephanie Hans (Marvel)
• Harley Quinn, by Amanda Conner, Jimmy Palmiotti, Chad Hardin, John Timms and Jed Dougherty (DC Comics)
• Lumberjanes, by Noelle Stevenson, Shannon Watters, Kat Leyh, Carolyn Nowak and Brooke Allen (BOOM! Studios)
• Midnighter, by Steve Orlando, Aco, Hugh Petrus, Alec Morgan and Stephen Mooney (DC Comics)
• The Wicked + The Divine, by Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie, Kate Brown and Tula Lotay (Image Comics)

Arrow was also nominated in the Outstanding Television Drama
