Variant covers are all the rage these days, and while it may spell the end of comics as we know it, they are often nice to look at. Here are some Joe Quesada variant covers for

  1. Joe Quesada does beautiful covers, but they are on books few can buy. I am not paying more than cover price for a new book no matter the cover artist. I wish Joe would do more standard covers and skip the variant madness. Joe is one of the best artists in comics and he produces stuff so rarely you would think he would want the widest audience to be able to buy his work.

I’d love to buy these covers but alas at the exorbitant price that retailers charge for the variants I’m left in the cold. (or I just wait for the collected edition where they are collected again).

  2. Not a huge fan of Joe’s artwork but I do find it ironic that he used to be very vocal about how much he disliked variant covers.

  3. These are very good colour covers, but I am not impressed with seeing inked black and white covers of the same image. Yes, they are variants, but there is nothing really compelling about them. The only variation is that they are not coloured (yet).

I also think the artist signature block is wayy too intrusive on the IronMan cover for sure, and not so great on the X-Men cover either. I’m all for creatives getting credit, but the element should not be strategically placed to be so important.

  4. Yeah, I agree that inked covers w/out color are lame. If you are going to do a B&W cover it needs to be the original pencils/sketch.

  5. I’ve found when people do ‘pencils’ on computer, they come outlooking like garbage. I think this might be computerized, but when colored looks a lot better. The actual pencils that Quesada has done still looks better, though. I ‘d love to have the New Avengers #1 variant he did and the 4 cover Seige covers set. Killer stuff, there.
