We’re pleased to be participating in the KaBOOM! Summer Blast, a week-long spotlight on the middle grade comic books and graphic novels comign from this publisher in 2018.

And we’re even happier to do it with PETALS, a new original graphic novel by writer/artist Gustavo Borges, along with Eisner Award-nominated colorist Cris Peter (Casanova), which hits stores September 2018.

PETALS is the story of a family of foxes struggling to survive a harsh winter, and the youngest cub’s fateful meeting with a strange hat-wearing bird.

As you can see from the preview, the artwork is outstanding, and what can I say, I’m a sucker for winter survival stories, and so are many young readers. It’s also a wordless tale that speaks to universal themes.

“Without a single word, PETALS will steal your heart,” said Whitney Leopard, Editor, BOOM! Studios. “Gustavo and Cris have crafted a truly affecting story that is perfect for anyone, regardless if they are an avid comic reader or discovering their first unforgettable graphic fiction experience. This silent graphic novel will have you falling in love with the characters instantly, Gustavo’s storytelling is really the next level and will have you invested on page one…but before you get lost in this amazing world, you might want to grab a box of tissues!”
