Dark Horse Comics has provided The Beat with an exclusive preview of the first six pages from The Quantum Age: From the World of Black Hammer #6. The series, written by Black Hammer scribe Jeff Lemire and featuring art by Wilfredo Torres and Dave Stewart, expands on the universe of the core Black Hammer series by paying homage to the Legion of Super-Heroes. Set 1,000 years in the future, The Quantum Age follows the reformation of a superhero team called The Quantum League as they endeavor to liberate Earth from the clutches of a powerful dictator, who happens to be a former Quantum Leaguer.

Here’s how the publisher describes The Quantum Age: From the World of Black Hammer #6:

The newly formed Quantum League set out for one final confrontation with the ruthless dictator of Earth. Meanwhile, two Black Hammer favorites reflect on their past, as the future is suddenly uncertain!

While other Black Hammer spin-offs like Sherlock Frankenstein and Doctor Star have been great standalone tales that enrich the backstory of the main Black Hammer series, The Quantum Age‘s inclusion of future versions of a handful of the core title’s characters makes this miniseries feel even more vital to the overall universe that Lemire has created. The series has also been a perfect showcase for Wilfredo Torres’s art. With The Quantum Age wrapping up, I’m excited to see what he does next.

Check out the preview pages, plus the two covers for the issue (by Wilfredo Torres and Jeff Lemire, respectively) below. The Quantum Age: From the World of Black Hammer #6 is due in stores on January 30th.
