Another publishing house has hired a dedicated graphic novel editor and in this case a very knowledgable one. Chris Duffy has been hired at Workman publishing as senior editor of graphic novels and sequential arts. He’ll report to director of children’s publishing Traci Todd, who is also a smart, graphic novel savvy editor.
Duffy formerly worked at DC and Nickelodeon and has most recently been editing the Spongebob comics, which were coming out from the now shuttered Bongo Comics.
If you add all this up, it sounds like more kids graphic novels are coming our way from Workman and everywhere because KIDS LOVE COMICS.

The Workman Publishing Children’s Group is delighted to welcome Karen Edwards as Senior Editor of curriculum-based trade publishing. In her new role, Karen will handle new and bestselling educational series, including Brain Quest, The Big Fat Notebooks, Star Wars Workbooks, and more. Karen comes to Workman from William H. Sadlier where she most recently was Managing Editor and oversaw a K-2 math program. She has also worked as a freelance writer and editor for McGraw Hill, Texas Instruments, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, creating content for grades 1-7 in both math and language arts. Her first day at Workman is October 1st.
The Workman Publishing Children’s Group also welcomes Chris Duffy as Senior Editor of graphic novels and sequential arts. Most recently, Chris was Managing Editor ofSpongeBob Comics, supervising the design and production of the monthly book. Prior to that, Chris edited First Second’s Fairytale Comics and Fable Comics, and was an editor atNickelodeon Magazine and DC Comics. Chris has worked with many esteemed comic writers and artists, including Al Jaffee, Tony Millionaire, Skottie Young, Raul the Third, Roz Chast, Mike Mignola, and Jillian Tamaki. In addition to working with the Workman Children’s Group, Chris will also contribute to the Workman adult list. His first day at Workman is October 1st.
Lastly, the Workman Publishing Children’s Group is excited to welcome Gracie Elliot, as Editorial Assistant on September 28th. Gracie comes to Workman from Smith College where she majored in sociology and the study of women and gender. At Smith she was also an Editorial Intern at Meridians, a peer-reviewed feminist journal, and was a Metadata Assistant for the Smith College libraries’ special collections. Before attending college, Gracie was an assistant teacher at a school in northern Ghana.
