Writer Chip Zdarksy and artist Marco Checchetto will take over Marvel’s Daredevil in February, with a new #1 issue.

This is a changing of the guard for one of Marvel’s most prominent titles, as well as a book with a long history of teasing (arguable) career-best work out of an A list of creators, including Frank Miller, Brian Michael Bendis, Ed Brubaker, Mark Waid and Chris Samnee, and, most recently, Charles Soule.

Soule is currently finishing a run on the book that dates back to 2015 right now with an arc titled The Death of Daredevil, illustrated by Phil Noto. That story wraps up with Daredevil #612 in late November. The character will then take a break for a month, before returning with a five-part limited series called Man Without Fear, which is running weekly in January from writer Jed MacKay and artist Danilo Beyrouth, relative newcomers compared to creators like Zdarsky and Checchetto.

For my taste, Zdarsky is a solid choice for this book, a writer as capable of putting jokes into scripts as he is of nailing heartfelt moments, even with massive corporate superhero properties. See his work on Howard the Duck #2 (seriously) and Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #300 for some of the best examples.

Marvel is yet to release substantial teaser art for the forthcoming run, save for this cryptic Know Fear image (below). Early word of the announcement came via the publisher’s web show, Earth’s Mightiest.

As revealed on Earth’s Mightiest Show, DAREDEVIL will usher in an all-new creative team this February!

Writer Chip Zdarsky (Peter Parker: Spectacular Spider-Man, Marvel’s 2-In-One) and artist Marco Checchetto (Old Man Hawkeye, Hunt For Wolverine: Dead Ends) will step into Hell’s Kitchen following Charles Soules’ memorable run, while inheriting the legacy of pulling Daredevil out of an impossible situation. But with the Death of Daredevil, how will our hero’s story continue?

You’ll have to wait until February to find out!
