While Spider-Man: Dead No More is being marketed based off a cliche, Marvel’s artists attached to the project announced today may prove the upcoming Spider-Man event will be at least worth a passing glance.
It’s a rare treat to see author Jim Cheung (Infinity) contribute his brand of unique and polished pencils to the comics Universe. Thankfully the author is now attached to Spider-Man: Dead No More. Regular The Amazing Spider-Man author Dan Slott is slated to write the comic book that will be released Saturday, May 7 during the Free Comic Book Day event happening worldwide.
A Dead No More prologue will run in The Amazing Spider-Man #19 drawn by artist Javier Garron (Star-Lord). The publisher has not yet released any official artwork from the artist. Marvel Comics tried to ignite a flame war when the teasers first hit and fans were speculating that Uncle Ben might return. Later pieces of the image hinted that Gwen Stacy might be making a comeback, but the first few teasers could be a red herring, as Doctor Octopus, the last piece of the teaser (may) be making his triumphant return to the Spider-Man Universe.
Is this Spidey event going to merit new interest in the Spider-Man ongoing series again, or will these new developments leave jaded comics readers in the dust?
