Boom Studios took to New York for a panel presentation on the company. Moderated by Boom Editor-In-Chief Ross Richie, and with panellists Bryce Carlson and Stephen Christy on-hand, the panel discussed the acquisition of Archaia, and the current setup of Boom as a whole.
Somewhere in the Long Slog Of 2013’s Comic Book Movie summer, I probably suggested that 2 Guns might end up being the most important film in terms of how Hollywood deals with comics properties (relatively low budget non superhero fare); how true that will be remains to be seen but it DEFINITELY was the most important film for Boom! Studios. They’ve just signed a first look deal with 20th Century Fox, that, at least in the hype rollout, sounds promising in terms of how it involves comics creators:
One of the things heard most frequently this weekend online was ‘why is there no comic news coming out of SDCC’? You mean aside from the masses and masses of comics news which came out of the convention, right? The Beat covered basically every single comics company you can imagine, and we’ve still got a […]
We’re almost reaching the end of San Diego Comic-Con 2013, but before packing her bags and heading back to Chicago, Megan Byrd (@comicbookcandy) has sent two last sets of photos from the festival. There’s cacti made out of yarn, Spider-Man being a dick to Darth Vader, all kinds of amazing cosplay, and shots from Archaia, Boom […]
Archaia have today announced that they’ll be publishing a graphic novel, HACKTIVIST, conceived by actress Alyssa Milano. The novel, which will be written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, will be drawn by Marcus To, coloured by Ian Herring, and lettered by Deron Bennett. That’s quite a formidable creative team backing up the story!
Well, well. While the general state of comics is pretty healthy these days, there had been one company whose well-being we continually heard whispers about, and that was Archaia: an ill-timed move to a bookstore distributor two years ago left them with massive returns and a lot of cash flow problems. None of these ever […]
These graphic novels have been chosen because they were all released in the past 6 months and equally combine qualities of well-crafted concepts and remarkable artwork to create solid visual narratives. They aren’t the only great graphic novels that have been released in recent months, but they are notable, and worth considering as near-misses if […]
Archaia, who makes a strengths out of the crossroads between comics and other visual media, has taken on another estuary zone in HAWKEN: GENESIS, bringing a comic based on a free internet gaming hub, HAWKEN to readers. Flood zones between visual media can be tricky, especially in gauging the right audience for a comic, since […]
As I suggested in my early con impressions, WonderCon had a reasonable amount of space and handled the numbers of attendees pretty well. It was no surprise that Saturday brought bigger numbers than Friday, and the crowding was more obvious, but still never reached that feeling of pushing and shoving that can easily erupt at […]
