Reported by Variety this evening, two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett may be the next prestige thespian to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the actress has entered talks to join the cast of Thor: Ragnarok.
While the role she’s up for is currently unknown, she would be joining Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo (who has been confirmed to appear as Bruce Banner/The Hulk), along with presumably Jaimie Alexander and Idris Elba, among others. Variety states that she’s up for one of the lead roles – as if the casting of Cate Blanchett wouldn’t make that obvious.
Taika Waititi will be directing, with a script written by Craig Kyle, Christopher Yost, and Stephany Folsom.
I’m sure the Enchantress is the first thing to cross many a mind here, but I find myself rooting for her to play Hela.
The film releases on November 3, 2017.
