Earlier today, we debuted the four initial Young Animal titles that will be releasing issues this May. Now, thanks to our friends at the AV Club, we now know there’s a fifth title kicking off that month from Gerard Way’s “pop-up imprint” as well.

From the minds of Lee, Mike, and Laura Allred: here comes Bug!: The Adventures of Forager. Centering on Jack Kirby’s adventurer who was often the target of prejudice by the New Gods who hovered above his people in Supertown, the Allreds will send this beleaguered hero through DC’s Kirbyverse that will involve not only the Fourth World, but also Sandman, Blue Beetle, and Atlas, among others surely.

There are a number of good quotes within the AV Club’s piece, but this one from Lee Allred gives you a sense of what this new mini-series is all about:

“Ever since Mike and I read a battered copy of New Gods #9 in the waiting room before guitar lessons, we’ve loved Forager the Bug,” says Lee Allred, who steps back into the writer’s seat after showing his deep understanding of Kirby concepts in Marvel’s FF. “A kinetic action hero on one hand, an alienated, introspective youth on the other—he’s the quintessential Young Animal character. We’re taking Bug on a slam-bang, save-the-universe romp across DC’s Kirbyverse as we search for Bug’s true place in life. It’s a family team project about a family road trip. Don’t make us turn this Kirby car around!”

Forager’s enemy in all of this mayhem? General Electric!

Update: DC’s press release has provided a descriptor of the series:

Forager is just one of the hive until the day he breaks out of his cocoon and finds himself in a mysterious house in an unknown realm. But he’s not alone. As he comes across strange creatures—a ghostly girl, a talking teddy bear—Bug will have to figure out how he got here and how to return. He’ll soon cross paths with the evil General Electric, who is after a precious metal that might change the very fabric of life! Forager must set out on a trip across the Multiverse to stop this evil uprising, and may even establish himself as a New God in the process.

Between FF and Silver Surfer, the Allreds have shown a big affinity towards Kirby style dynamism and his creations for the House of Ideas. Now they turn their attention over to some of his great contributions to DC. This marks another great 100th Birthday tribute to the King!

Bug!: The Adventures of Forager kicks off on May 10th.
