Another videogame is heading to the screen–this time, Borderlands, a FPS game is set in a comics-inspired SF universe. Avi Arad and Ari Arad, who certainly have a lot os experience with comics-inspired films, are making it with Lionsgate.

The game was developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K, a division of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. and has sold some 26 million copies—8 million this year alone.

The Arads, of course are behind many Marvel properties, including the early ventures Spider Man, The Amazing Spider Man, X-Men, Ghost Rider, Iron Man and Blade, and the more recent The Amazing Spider-Man. Avi was one of the major players behind Marvel’s re-emergence following its 90s bankruptcy and he actually founded Marvel Studios in 1993.

The move is part of the whole video game initiative launched at Lionsgate with Peter Levin at the helm. With the Hunger Games franchise wrapping up, and the Divergent series underway, it’s seen as another tentpole for the studio.

IDW published some Borderlands comics a couple of years ago. You can bet there will be more if the movie is a hit.
