This morning author Brian Michael Bendis teased a second Iron Man title in addition to his upcoming Invincible Iron Man via his Tumblr account: “Man, the launch of ‘Iron Man’ is going so well, I might have to launch another!”

The writer initially shared the debut of a variant for the Invincible Iron Man comic by frequent collaborator Sara Pichelli. What would a second Iron Man title starring Tony Stark look like? Would the comic feature different characters from the expanded Iron Man cannon such as War Machine or even the recently unveiled Arno Stark unearthed in the current continuity from Kieron Gillen?

Bendis himself had two series starring alternate groups of X-Men with Uncanny X-Men and All-New X-Men, before that he penned the scripts for both New Avengers and Mighty Avengers as well. A series of twin Iron Man titles starring Tony is definitely a possibility and likely considering the publishing history of Marvel as of late. Invincible Iron Man #1 has over 200,000 preorders contained within the direct market, leading Marvel to tout the book as a definitive success. Another #1 starring the character would make sense for the publisher financially.

The future of Stark himself is very much up in the air right now within current Marvel continuity. Following the events of Rick Remender’s AXIS: Avengers & X-Men event series, Stark’s alignment reversed turning him evil. The future of Stark seems likely to change after the marquee crossover event Secret Wars comes to close — which is where the new brand new Iron Man title picks up.
