When it was announced a few months ago that Kickstarter was hiring a new Comics Outreach lead, it quickly became the hottest job in comics (at least based on the number of people who asked The Beat to be a reference.) Well, the competition is over and the job has been filled.
It's official: I'm moving to Brooklyn to work at Kickstarter as their new Comics Outreach Lead!

Audrey Redpath was formerly Content Director at Hiveworks (current webhost for this very site) and the writer of the webcomic Symbol. She also Kickstarted the queer-focused Oath Anthology of New Heroes. She’s a veteran of the crowdfunding world with heavy duty contacts in the webcomics community that uses Kickstarter so effectively.
In short, while there was a talented pool to choose from, Redpath is pretty perfect for this job, especially for the kind of community outreach that Kickstarter is looking for.
The “Kickstarter anthology” as a format has become a huge part of the new comics economy, both as a platform for indie publishers and as a way for new talent to get noticed and get experience. There’s often a lot of chit chat about the lack of “break in” books for Big Two talent, but anthologies, where such try-outs often took place, is simply a commercial no-go in the DM. It’s notable that in the direct to consumer world, it’s become such a big deal.
Redpath will definitely bring a lot to the table for that format and more. Congrats!
