AMC has renewed its freshman DC/Vertigo adaptation Preacher for a second season.

The series is currently in the middle of its first 10 episode season, with Episode 5 having just aired last Sunday. It’s currently the #2 series on cable this year among adults 18-49 and 25-54. With its second season, Preacher will expand to 13 episodes, airing in 2017.

From the press release:

“‘Preacher’ is a special television program and we’re eager to share with fans the rest of this wild first season and, now, an expanded second season,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios. “What Sam, Seth, Evan and the entire creative team have achieved in bringing Garth Ennis’ graphic novel to the screen is extraordinary. We look forward to more time with these unforgettable characters be it in Heaven, Hell, Texas or beyond.”

This live-action version of the Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon classic has gotten off to a solid start, though it’s best material so far is what’s occurring on the fringes of each episode. For those who’ve missed out, AMC will re-air the first 5 episodes of the season starting this Thursday night at 9 pm.

Preacher was developed for television by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (This is The End, Superbad, Neighbors) and showrunner Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad).

  1. I fail to understand the enthousiasm for this show, besides the title and the name of the characters it has nothing to do with the comic-book. Average tv at best.

  2. ive watched the show and as a fan of the book i have to say its been pretty bland. i see what they are trying to do in order to build up to jessie’s great commission if you will but its so slow i don’t see how average viewers will want to invest the time into watching it.

jessie’s forcing people to love god and take his advise is so out of character for what he would do i really dont recognize the guy.
