Last year the University of Missouri had a special exhibit celebrating 75 years of the comic strip Alley Oop, which concerns a comical, time raveling caveman. A digital exhibit is online, with a bio of creator V.T. Hamlin, information on the strip’s history, examples of Oop licensing over the years and much other interesting stuff. Check it out.

  1. I picked up two of the Alley Oop collections from Fantagraphics (at least I think it was them) years ago and they were a lot of fun. It was my first time ever seeing the character and I was really amused over the fact that his build (those massive forearms and hands!) seemed very similar to Popeye’s.

It just made me appreciate the sheer variety of material available to my parents in their Sunday comics every week.
