Continue ReadingNew York Comic Con -- the spectacle begins. Playing in support of ORCHID, his debut comic for Dark Horse, former Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello will appear as The Nightwatchman, backed by his band the Freedom Fighters, for a set at the IGN theater in the Javits Center. The show kicks off at 7:30 on Thursday, October 13th. It's free to all badge holders, but seating is first come, first served. DJ Z-Trip will also appear.
Continue ReadingAlthough various factors are being thrown around as contributing to the closing Haven Distributors-- including the New 52 -- it isn't entirely clear what did them in. Distribution is a middle man's game, the most difficult in the food chain, and a business of margins. Haven never really seems to gain traction with retailers or publishers -- according to one indie publisher we spoke with, Haven's order were very small and irregular and never surpassed the Cold Cut orders. Front man Lance Stahlberg was well thought of, but his efforts remained low key.

Continue ReadingBatman's got a new cartoon and a new sidekick: Katana, the female ninja character created in the 80s and lately part of the New 52 Birds of Prey comic (above, foreground). Talking at the MIP JR tv conference in France, Cartoon Network programing head Sam Register said that BEWARE THE BATMAN will debut in 2013. In addition to katana, Batman will be teamed with a gun-toting Alfred.

But you can't keep a smart guy out, and he's back as the newly named President and Partner for Epic Digital, a Phoenix-based web, design and media company. Malve will be heading a newly formed entertainment division to spearhead projects in digital and animation.
