Just when we thought we couldn’t love Francesco Francavilla any more, along come these variant covers for the upcoming Archie Meets KISS crossover.
The four-part story, running in ARCHIE #627-630, is written by Alex Segura with art by Dan Parent. And in the grand tradition of KISS/comics crossovers, there will be spooky monsters that can only be vanquished by the KISS Riverdale Army.
Segura spoke to CBR last month, explaining that the project is highly coordinated with the band’s frontmen. “Gene [Simmons] and Paul [Stanley] see everything at each stage, so they chime in. It’s been pretty smooth sailing, though, and they’ve been amazingly supportive. It’s one of the easiest collaborations of this kind I’ve ever been a part of.” He also noted that the crossover will contain more than simply the core Archie cast of characters. “When a spell goes wrong, Sabrina and the Archies discover that Riverdale’s overrun by a gang of dangerous monsters. Who will help them corral the creatures before they turn everyone into mindless zombies? None other than KISS, who arrive on the scene ready for a fight!”

I think Francavilla might be my favorite cover artist right now — belle epoque colors, ’30s movie poster composition, plus references to Scooby Doo and Kingdom Come. And KISS. Don’t forget the KISS.
The first issue of the crossover comes out in November, but we’re calling this part of “31 Days of Halloween” anyway.
