Share this link on Facebook!Tweet This weekend, the second New England Webcomics Weekend is happening in Easthampton, MA. Guests are a veritable who’s who of the webcomics world, including R. Continue ReadingJust last week it was announced that Wizard was bringing its Wizard World tour of pop culture-themed autograph shows to New Orleans -- at the exact same venue as the existing NOLA Comic Con. Now it turns out that Wizard has acquired the NOLA con, and is moving it to their earlier, January date. Many of Wizard's convention acquisitions have been more of an organizational shift than an actual purchase—the two entities share leads and resources and the original show runners get to broker exhibit space. New Orleans is a notoriously difficult locale for vendor conventions, so in this case, teaming up makes a lot of sense.

Continue ReadingBob Schreck, one of the industry's best regarded editors, has left his position as Senior Editor at IDW to start a comics division for Legendary Pictures (not Entertainment, as the IDW release states), according to PR that just went out. The parting was amicable. Legendary Pictures, founded by Thomas Tull, has produced such films as Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Hangover, Inception, and Where the Wild Things Are, so the connection to starting their own comics company is pretty obvious and Schreck is well qualified to start such an effort.

Although I know Kyle well enough to know he wouldn't have been bothered, I took down the post and contacted Kyle on Facebook (since his kyle@kylebaker.com email no longer worked) and we had a brief correspondence. And then he posted Whatever Happened To Kylebaker.com? which is a total history of the portfolio website and the internet in one. Basically he felt the website was out of date and supplanted by social media, and newer ventures were more business targeted:
Continue ReadingIt happens so seldom that it must be celebrated. Nick Gurewitch's much missed webcomic has a new strip out this week. Gurewitch dramatically scaled back production of his popular strip in February, 2008, citing a desire to stay fresh and work on some multimedia projects. He's been disappointingly quiet since then. Come back, Nick! Come back! We need you!

About 46,500 people attended the three day event, making it the biggest MCM yet. There also seemed to be quite a number of people that didn’t buy tickets and just came to stand [...]
