bongocomics Bongo Comics website launches tomorrowWhen lists of the most successful and lasting independent comics companies are made up, few people ever include Bongo, known for titles in the “Groening-verse” of Futurama, The Simpsons, and Life in Hell. But Bongo is celebrating its 17th year of publishing comics this year! And to mark the occasion they have a new website, which will feature news updates, resources, blogging and so on.

Matt Groening, creator of “The Simpsons” and “Futurama,” has announced that Bongo Comics Group’s new website, www.bongocomics.com, will launch on Wednesday, July 21st in time for the beginning of the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con International. www.bongocomics.com will offer regular “Simpsons” and “Futurama” news items and blog updates, as well as announcements of new publishing ventures. A comprehensive history of all Matt Groening’s comic-book, trade-book, and calendar publications, including Groening’s catalog of books collecting his syndicated strip Life in Hell, will also be featured.

The site will provide daily updates throughout the four-day San Diego Comic-Con with events happening in and around the Bongo Comic Group booth (#2519). The site will provide a dose of “Simpsons,” “Futurama,” and Life in Hell humor with daily quips, favorite Bongo moments, and sketch-a-day postings, giving fans an inside look at the design process of comic-book publishing from concept to finished art. The site will also provide fans with a comprehensive list of comic stores to find new and old issues throughout the United States.

Matt Groening, publisher of Bongo Comics, has been producing comics and books for 17 years. Titles include: Simpsons Comics, Bart Simpson, Simpsons Classics, The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror, Simpsons Super Spectacular, The Simpsons Summer Shindig, The Simpsons Winter Wingding, Futurama Comics, as well as Simpsons World: The Ultimate Episode Guide (Seasons 1-20), being released by HarperCollins Publishers on October 26, 2010. One could argue Bongo is the _most_ mainstream publisher.

Now if that can only do subscription services…

  3. Agreed, Todd. While few know of their comics, their graphic novels sell tremendously!

I hope the site will archive Matt Groening’s essays from the early years of Bongo! Good stuff!!

Well, it’s tomorrow. And it doesn’t appear to be up. Or, at least, it’s asking for a user ID and password and I’m hoping I’m not the only uncool kid on the block who didn’t get one…
