Traveling music, please

We are on the road YET AGAIN, so please bear with us. Just a few quick notes, while we cue the montage:

• The Emerald City ComiCon was awesome, with a capital AWE. Attendance was up 40 percent from last year, and everyone was having a good time and selling comics. We’ll have a few reports later on, but the overall show was extremely enjoyable, and the local in downtown Seattle was top notch.

• Extra special thanks to two people who saved my life this weekend: Darick Robertson for the Advil after I sprained my thumb in yet another convention mishap; and Richard Starkings for charging my iPhone when I was in grave danger of losing contact with my pack leader. Many other great peeps, including Ben Templesmith, Marley Zarcone, Pia Guerra, Ian Boothby, Vicki Van, Moritat, Joanne and Mark, the Image crew, CB Cebulski and probably lots of great folks I am forgetting, as always, helped make this a memorable and fun show. Let’s all do it again soon!

• ON a less pleasant topic, while I’ve been traveling of late, I haven’t always been able to police the comments the way I should but please note: The Beat will not tolerate abusive posting, including falsehoods about industry figures or events. This is not one of those sites where endless creator bashing is allowed.

Richard Starkings should be careful–he’s developing a reputation as a vigilante cell phone-charging hero!

It was great to meet you, by the way.

  2. Ian Boothby says:

We had a great time hanging with you and Ben too. One correction Vikcy Guerra is now Vicky Van or @shutupnerd on her very funny twitter posts.

  3. Eva Hopkins says:

ECCC is one of THE BEST comics shows in the country, in terms of guest diversity, promotion, location & attendance. Whenever anyone talks to me about how they’re gonna launch a show, I suggest they call Jim Demonakos for advice. Don’t think any of them have done it, but promoters take note: a rockin’ 2-day show, in a venue where ppl can go out after, kicks the TAR out of a drawn-out 3-day show, where Friday & Sunday are dead, & nobody can get to anything after.

JML & I are confirmed for ECCC next year. Can’t freakin’ wait.

  4. Nice to meet you as well! Your troll pic is up at http://torvald.gjovaag.com/2010ECCC.html

  5. Marley Zarcone says:

I’m glad we met! ECCC was a lot of fun. You may have inspired me to ditch my ancient cell phone for one of those fancy iphones. Everybody’s advanced technology made me jealous!
