Over in Florida, comics news out of MegaCon has been pretty sparse. In fact, Dan DiDio had to add Black Canary and Green Arrow cosplayers up to fill out his DC Nation panel. Okay, we’re kidding, but not too much newsworthy stuff came out of the panel except for the fact that there may be Legion rings.
The biggest news at the show was that the popular team of writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray and artist Amanda Conner would be leaving POWER GIRL after a 12-issue run.
“We set out to give Power Girl an interesting supporting cast, a new job and a new life and give her the personality that we felt would stick with the character for a long time after us,” said Palmiotti. “This book has a certain magic that the entire team brought to it that we couldn’t be happier for. “But Amanda always said she could just commit to the book for a year, and as we got into the series we realized that we just couldn’t do the same type of book with another artist at this point and decided it was a good idea to leave with her and give another team a shot.”

I admit, that is a classy decision.
Perhaps I can get that Bomb Queen vs. The Pro one shot done now that she’s free, haha!!
I’ll wait and see. These guys are a hard act to follow, but they’ve created a great series, and I’ll defintely pick up the trades (while still reading the monthlies).
Man, this green Arrow really need to put on some lifting exercise. Look at those tiny arms!
I was picking up Power Girl chiefly for Conner’s art, but I was growing to appreciate the characterization, and definitely loved the short-and-sweet stories. This trio will be a hard act to follow, to be sure.
I dunno. That team pretty much carried the series. I say cancel it with #12 and move on to something else. PG is great and all, but not able to carry her own book without a top creative team.
I picked up my first issue of PG only recently to see the issue featuring the old Superman character Vartox. It was a lot of fun, so I’m disappointed to see that the team is leaving. It’s pretty rare to see a team “define” a character; John Byrne did it for the FF and She-Hulk (among others), Walt Simonson did it for Thor (among others), Gail Simone on Birds of Prey… This issue of PG really seemed to have a character-defining vibe to it. It’s a shame to see it all end after only 12 issues.

I’ll miss the team, but DC should NOT cancel POWER GIRL. With that approach, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #38 would have concluded that series. Many talented writers and illustrators have contributed to the Spider-Man mythos since 1966.
