A new retailer incentive ring, this one the elusive White Lantern, and this one lights up. “Lighty, brighty” — Rich J., you are really on to something!

Another possible use for the rings — make a ladder.

  2. Just so no one is confused, there are two sets of rings:
    * the retailer incentives, which come fifty to a bag
    * the DC Direct LED light-up rings which will retail for $59.99

Personally, I’m a bit disappointed that the White Lantern ring isn’t made of glow-in-the-dark plastic.

Just read Blackest Night #7. The story makes me think that Grant Morrison and Geoff Johns had a long talk and this storyline is the result. It had that heady feeling I’d associated with old Doctor Strange stories but which I’d never expected to see nowadays. I’ll be looking forward to getting a White Lantern ring!

  4. El Qwanto says:

Actually White Ring will take 10th finger, since 9th is for The Flash Ring.
And unfortunately no more fingers for LEGION rings.

  5. Richard says:

Not to sound all pervy, but there are other places that rings might go.

  6. Sphinx Magoo says:

Wearing Flash rings on your toes makes you run faster. It’s a proven Flash Fact!

  7. Well, given the rings’ behaviors, the rings should be worn:
    left thumb = black
    left index = red
    left middle = yellow
    left ring = mauve
    left pinky = orange

    right thumb = white
    right index = indigo
    right middle = green
    right ring = violet
    right pinky = blue

Since all lantern rings provide flight and a protective aura, a Legionnaire flight ring is not required.

  8. Christian says:

I have very feminine hands. The ring will fit nicely around my thumb. I’ll look like some kind of space-aged Lilith fair lesbian.

  9. EJ says:

Best thing about this will be reading Brevoort’s next emotional tweet about how DC is resorting to gimmicks to sell comics and swearing up and down that Siege is not a flop even though it bricked worse than 50’s last album.

  10. Sphinx Magoo says:

As an Iron Man merchandising tie-in, it would be natural for Marvel to release a set of 10 rings based on the Mandarin’s 10 rings. Now, will they or won’t they? Will they release such a set after DC’s already released a set with 10 rings? Or will they hold off because they don’t want to seem to be copying DC?

I see two problems with that.

    1) The Mandarin is a villain. Parents wouldn’t want their kids emulating a villain; adults would just see the rings as another collectible item.

    2) How many people could say what the rings do? I’ve read IRON MAN pretty consistently over the years, and I’d have to struggle to come up with more than a few of the rings’ effects. Force beam, disintegration beam, magnetism? Teleportation? Agh, it’s so embarrassing not knowing. . .

Besides, the Mandarin isn’t even in the next Iron Man movie – so the point is moot.
