Thanks, Chris. With the exception of the Abstract Comics book, all of Badger's work is sadly out of print, meaning that if a comic shop doesn't carry back issues, they may not be carrying his work. Time to hunt some back issues!

For funny and autobio stuff, get all four amazing issues of "Instant Piano" (by Dark Horse Comics). For super hero stuff, the "Martian Manhunter" mini series (from '88) is great, as is "Batman: Jazz" or "Batman: Run, Riddler, Run". For oddball epics, try "SCORE" (DC) and "Greenberg the Vampire" (Marvel).

Browse through some examples here and see if anything else jumps out at you: http://michelfiffe.com/columns/mark_badger/index.html

And check out his art blog... he regularly posts new and cool stuff: http://markbadger.org/

Wow, this is a fantastic interview! I sheepishly admit that I'd never heard of Badger before now -- but having seen his work, I'm going to see how much I can hunt down. Any suggestions on where to start?

I think I got offered Greenberg after Carl offered me Dr. Strange and he felt I couldn't do both , which was probably right. But I eventually got Carl Rich Case to make up for it.

Thanks, Xavier. As for Badger becoming the regular Dr. Strange artist, it may have been simply a case of reassignment after the announcement. Dr. Strange's title had this problem before. Paul Smith was slated to stay on longer than he actually did. Frank Miller was slated to become regular penciler, and even drew an ad for it despite never drawing an actual issue:

Great interview. Thanks for that. Would have been great to know why Mark Badger did not stay on Doctor Strange after he was announced as the new regular artists.
