@James

Ok you made The Anchor sound pretty good. I wasn't overly impressed by the first issue as it just seemed like another Hellboy knock-off but I'm looking at online previews of the other issues now.

I like some of the ALL AGES books out there right now. The only problem I ever have with them is that one issue will be great and the next one will be kind of stupid. No consistency. But I put a couple on my pull list because otherwise my comicshop might not order them.

"12/2009: The Boys #37 - 24,025 (+2.4%)
 6 month (-5.6%)
 1 year (-11.5%)
 2 year (-17.7%)
 3 year (-11.1%)

I’m not sure about the reasons for this increase. This issue featured the origin of the Frenchman."

Maybe readers were clamoring for the most egregiously ethnocentric British diatribe against all things French ever to be found in a funny book? It was a way off-concept for this title, but hilariously so.

i think it would be more useful for people who complain and request more titles to be listed in these charts to simply do the appropriate listings themselves and post them as comments. that way you could both see that it requires some effort, communicate what you want to point out about them, make the picture for us more complete and make it easier for the column writer to include them in further columns if s/he pleases to..

Matthew,

FWIW....you said:

"I don’t currently do the Boom Disney titles (and the Archie titles, and Shonen Jump, and the Bongo titles) because they are distributed outside of the direct market, so knowing what they sell in the direct market is less useful than this chart already is. I will, however, look into this stuff."

Color me confused! The above just plain doesn't make much sense to me, as the DM and the newsstand are just simply different beasts. Why leave out our kids books just because they also sell through other channels? I don't see you leaving out Marvel's and DC's book because they are on the newsstand and you don't have newsstand numbers.

This is especially odd when you can look through Previews in the last couple of months and see a whole ton of kids books coming from independent publishers that may or may not have mass market distro... I'm pretty darn proud of helping spearhead a whole new marketplace for these books in the DM and welcome all the other indy publishers that are helping build a whole mess of kids comics in the DM, the likes that haven't been seen in a generation.

And... since I am here.... to all you people that care about these numbers, I'd highly recommend John Jackson Miller's site here:

http://www.comichron.com/monthlycomicssales/2009/2009-12.html

This is a site I find indispensable in its ease of use. What's also great is you can easily glean info like this:

Items in Top 300

Marvel - 111
DC - 85
Boom - 19
Image - 18
IDW - 17
Dynamic -12

Of those 19 books of ours in the Top 300, 10 our from our BOOM Kids! line.

And... this one's for Jesse Blaze Snider... The TOY STORY comic he wrote ranked #268. Go Jesse!

Best,

I don't understand the near-random sales of Grimm <strike>Booby</strike> Fairy Tales either. Some months I sell out, and some months I have all my shelf copies left over when they're taken down. The subscription sales are mostly to women, and the impulse sales (I believe) are more to men.

(I hope the strikethrough HTML code works on Beat 3.0.)

Thanks for posting. Love looking at these charts.

I am amazed at Archies increased sales - and that it has been able to stay so high!

Glad that Incorruptible has started off so well. But I'm pissed the first trade is going to be dearer than the single issues ($17). Especially when the Irredeemable first trade was only $10!

Is Wolf-man (by Kirkman) as good as Walking Dead and Invincible? Because I love them series.

Torsten: There were a couple of Tank Girl minis published by Vertigo, that one shot by Image, and the stuff in the Titan comics was originally published in the 2000ad Megazine (published by Rebellion).

John: I know that, I do. I don't know why I spelt it that way. It's fixed now.

Whoops. Mea culpa... they did chart.

Mr. Murray, would you please list all independent (non-DC/Marvel) titles which chart. Analysis is only needed for the Top 200, but the list should be as comprehensive as the DC and Marvel sales charts, for comparison. Many of us do not read the ICV2 listings, and to omit titles marginalizes publishers, titles, and creators which already are marginalized by fans and stores.

That said, thank you for your hard work. I do appreciate it.

Jesse, given a) the direct market's general lack of marketing towards children (Archie normally sells 2K), and
b) that Marvel Adventures Spider-Man, possibly the best known superhero among kids and possibly the best version on the stands rarely (never?) charts above #200, then c) a media tie-in featuring well-known characters which never sold well in the past twenty years in the U.S., published by a smaller publisher, will sell fewer copies, and not make the cut-off for the Top 300.

Yes, The Muppet Show is awesome, the Disney titles are never-before-seen stories which have been successful enough to be spun off onto onging series, and the trades are nicely priced. Fortunately, Boom! has an agressive newsstand and library strategy, so the kids are probably finding the good stuff.

Geez... even the Simpsons Comics don't chart... even with amazing talent... but the trade sales are strong enough to keep the comics coming.
