Let’s do it!

Hey Gang — welcome to The Beat 3.0!

Please note there will soon be a Beat 3.1 with old content, and an even more improved interface. However, we were so excited to get up and running that we decided to get here a wee bit early. Think of it as a shakedown cruise.

F’r instance, we couldn’t get all our links imported in the links panel at the bottom of the page (until we figure out how to convert an xml file to an opml file — blech) but the previous sidebar is available in the Links file under Resources in our page drop-down.

Other improvements — social bookmarking links at the bottom of every post. Please feel free to spread the Beat gospel far and wide.

Also, while we get the new site up and running, we’d appreciate all the backlinks we can get, for the sake of Google.

  13. Scott Bieser says:

The new design looks good! The site seems to load faster, too. (Minor quibble: need a jump link in that long-ass Marvel sales figures post). I’m sure the minor hiccups will shake themselves out soon enough.

  14. Scott Bieser says:

    – and sure enough, as soon as I finish that last comment, my quibble becomes moot.

  15. Welcome to your digs Heidi! I also really like the logo.

    Congratulations!

  23. I just noticed either a mistake, or a stroke of irony so sophisticated that I don’t get it, in the links page – where the “Super Punch” link leads to an embroidery company rather than to http://superpunch.blogspot.com

I’m betting on the irony because, y’know, I’m just slow that way.

  24. Charles Knight says:

I like the new site but grey on white text for the articles and comments gives poor contrast and is hurting my eyes.

  25. Alexa says:

Anyone wanting an LJ feed, here it is:

  26. Rob Worley says:

    Lookin’ sharp!

  27. Todd VerBeek says:

Minor tech glitch: The web server hasn’t been configured to recognize comicsbeat.com as an alias for http://www.comicsbeat.com. Most people will figure it out, but since “www.” is logically redundant when accessing a web site, and most webmasters have set up the appropriate aliasname to make it unnecessary, I’ve gotten in the habit of leaving it out when I type an address.

  28. Bill says:

This must be exactly what a ninja in training feels like getting their back tattoo.

  29. What an upgrade. Web minimalism is best.

  30. The Beat says:

Hey peeps, thanks for the overwhelming support.

As I said this is just a transitional stage, but I like the roomy feel as well.

As for the DNS glitch, yeah gotta fix that. Should be fixed by tomorrow. I’ll be back to regular posting tomorrow as well.

  31. Trish Mulvihill says:

    I *like* it. Good feng-shui.

  36. Todd Alcott says:

Place looks great, where can I set my drink?

  37. Jim Lee says:

    Ah…*looking aruond*…it’s so, different! O.o
    But good! :)

too bad ya couldn’t put that Rania Smile trailer on here so it rots at the old place, but it’s all good I guess.

  45. Steve Leialoha says:

Love the new place. Nice and roomy.

  46. Jackie Estrada says:

The gray text is really tough on my eyes as well–is it going to stay that way? Otherwise, looks fabulous!

  47. Anne D B says:

Glad to be here. I see some old friends on this thread as well. It’s gonna be great!

  48. What do I think of the new blog, Heidi?

The color scheme from the earlier version of your blog needs to be brought back. Bring back the background colors.A brown and brownish greenish dot background could work. The blocky san-serifs for the top right header don’t capture the mood or sensibility of the blog . They should be changed to serifs. The new logo is a bit nostalgic but in a good way. It has a nice pinch of yellow but that yellow is standing out too much because of all the gray. Speaking of color,Where’s the red? Bring back the red. Bring it back to somewhere near the top of the page.
