Guillermo Del Toro is not entirely sanguine on a HOBBIT II movie
“We believe there is a second movie,” del Toro said during a discussion at the Majestic Crest. “If there isn’t, there will not be. If we find it, we will shoot it, but by God, if we do not find it, we will not shoot it. I am anxious to shoot the book, and I’m willing and able to dedicate myself to shooting the [second film].”

That’s actually the most comforting thing he could have said, to me. Not forcing the 2nd movie but actually finding a way tell that material compellingly is pretty important. I still they’d be better off splitting the actual Hobbit story in two and extending it with the battle of the White Council and the Necromancer at Dol Guldur…but we’ll see. The fact that the director wants to make sure they do the story right, though, is heartening.
