Silly tabloid chatter, but for those wondering what’s up with WHITEOUT, the upcoming film based on the Greg Rucka/Steve Lieber GN, apparently some reshoots are being done so that Kate Beckinsale’s “giant rump” will not be seen:
But a source on her new film Whiteout said: “Kate has a terrible self-image. She thinks she is fat and she is always complaining how certain outfits make her bottom look big. Of course, the reality is that she has the most amazing body.
“The script called for her character to be filmed nude in a shower, focusing in on her bottom and thighs. Kate insisted on a double being hired. She was quite open on the set about not liking her body and said she particularly loathed her bottom and was not comfortable baring it.”
A last-minute call for a double went out on a Hollywood casting website last week for scenes that begin shooting tomorrow.
And now, your feminist moment for the day: Kate, you are not fat, honey. You are beautiful.
For me, hearing Kate Beckinsale has a bad body image is just depressing. I wish more women would realize they’re beautiful just the way they are. Sure, it’s always better to exercise, eat right, and generally try to be in shape, but not doing those things shouldn’t automatically equate with a bad body image.
Beckinsale? What a hog! She’s like the ugliest actress out there, along with Charlize and Gwynneth and Uma and….
Wow! Has she ever seen herself on screen? She should either go see a shrink or an opthamologist.

She has no butt at all. No curves whatsoever. I dont get it.

She had an eating disorder as a young woman, and probably continues to have body dysmorphia as a result. Also, she works in Hollywood. Nothing will warp your self-image like being critiqued daily by everyone from tabloids to directors.
Seriously, though, it’s a miracle that she can reconcile her self-image with her career choice. Quite sad.
Charlize is to be blame. Kate looks at her and thinks “I´m not the prettiest there is”.
I have no problem with her choice to not show off her body in the buff.
Now if we could only convince some lesser ‘celebrities’ to do the same… :(

Yes, Matt, but for the exact opposite reason she believes. I suspect that if she had a little more meat on her, she’d (a) be hotter; (b) think herself hotter; and (c) want to show it off more. It’s sad that squeezably soft women are given such short shrift in the media; they’re certainly more often than not the kinds I’d rather spoon with, among other activities.
Oh, good…we’ve gotten to bashing slim women. Perfect. Because body snark hasn’t infiltrated enough of the culture yet. The whole point of this post was that she should feel good about herself regardless of what others think…and here we are with a thread of mostly people declaring they do or do no find her attractive in absolutes.
This whole body critiquing culture is just sick.
I think they should humor her — film the scene with the body double, then leave the footage of KB herself in. Wonder if she’d notice.
