Great to see Marcus is doing well! I'm assuming that this Marcus Lusk is the same genius behind "Tales from the Bog". Loved that series and miss it terribly!!!

Just checked out The Bayou and it seems very nice. I like the use of browns in the scheme, but leaving out the "N" word is just plain silly.

The Safari issue is Apple's fault. It doesn't handle Flash properly. There are things Apple does well but Safari isn't one of them. It's only slightly less buggy than IE. Firefox all the way.

"Very abrupt ending…not even an “end of chapter” blurb to let folks know they’re at the end for now. "

Yeah, that's a pretty dumb oversight.

They should just display the comics at full size. They're not that big anyway. It's a pain in the ass to zoom in, have to slide the image around, turn the page and then have to zoom in and slide again. Reading a comic online should be no more complicated than reading a print comic. The Bayou story is interesting enough that I want to read another chapter, but that player is a huge turn-off.

I'm probably alone on this one, but the viewer Zuda chose for displaying the comic pages kills all my enthusiasm. I understand it's intended to be adapted to cell phones, and that maybe my high-rez screen is a problem too (often making the text too tiny to read without the hassle of zooming in, which seems to defeat the purpose of the smaller "screen-friendly" page size). I've also been spoiled by the faster, more user-friendly formats used by all other Webcomic sites, so again, I know how subjective my opinion is.

The Zuda viewer is just too cumbersome for me. It goes against the quick-browsing benefits of online comics, which often gets me to read something that doesn't immediately catch my eye.

And I can’t help it; every time I look at the “Bayou” logo, that big swooshy flourish to the left of the “B” looks like a “C.”

I agree with you. That "C" swoosh off of the letter B isn't necessary and is a distraction in the design sense. So Zuda's first "winning" strip begins with a poor logo then leads to censorship?

Overall I was pretty underwhelmed by all the choices.

And what's this deal that it can't work well in Safari? What, they don't realize that people actually use Macs?

We're not old fogeys, we just appreciate the organic feel of hand-lettering. In some strips, it can make all the difference between a smooth read and a disjointed one. "Bayou" is one of those strips that could have greatly benefited from good old hand-rendered lettering.

I read three of them. I wasn't grabbed. I don't like comics that were rendered inside computers, though. I guess that's my problem. I don't even like the lettering to be computerized. I guess I'm an old fogey.

Very abrupt ending...not even an "end of chapter" blurb to let folks know they're at the end for now. That's a big minus with the new and curious crowd Zuda would like to attract...Plus hard to read text made magnifying and scrolling necessary for me. And the censorship of "the N word" comes off as gutless in my opinion. Why not choose another feature for their big launch if they're gonna have to censor their own material right out of the gate? Overall, a quality piece of work, but the presentation leaves a great deal to be desired.
