We were first amused then horrified to see how much of this made up bibble babble we use all the time — “Mark Millar will helm this ep of the Peacock Network skein.” Maybe it’s time to start reading a better class of slang, like the sports page or The National Review.

“Horse Whisperer Has Strong B.O.” …?
A little slanguage goes a long way. Mostly, it’s useful when you’re writing about the same stuff over and over to have another term to describe something. (I personally used “skein” a lot when writing about TV). It is strangely tempting when writing for Variety to go overboard on this style, but the example the critic provides is a good example of why moderation is a good idea.
